Rooms have Nespresso machine and yummy snacks
Keio Plaza
Established hotel about 7-10 minutes' walk (6-year-old's pace) from Shinjuku Station
Rooms are pretty decent
Osaka
Hotel Monterey Grasmere Osaka
Practically next to JR Namba station
OCAT terminal is next door to the hotel (OCAT = Osaka City Air Terminal which is a bus terminal for the Airport Limousine Bus Services for Kansai and Itami airports)
There's a shopping centre with a supermarket next to the hotel
Hotel has a stone chapel inside (recreation of an English chapel)

jetsetter:We travelled with CX last year and it came with hotel package. So we stayed at Prudential Hotel. I think it is a local 3-4 star. HK room size is not big. But we thought it was fairly decent. It came with 3 beds which was good for 2A1C. It allows us to have a good night sleep. For your 2 year old, maybe try asking for queen + 1 additional. We like the location very much. Think it's next to Jordan MTR. There is a good dim sum restaurant downstairs that offers 50% off so we go there for breakfast on most mornings. You can see alot of locals yumcha there. It's walking distance to TST, ladies market, etc... Lots of local eateries nearby.
2-3 years back we travelled with 6A3C and we got ourselves 3 rooms at Citadines at TST area. That was in the heart of TST. Also very convenient. It came with a queen bed and a sofa bed that is like good for 2C. Got my 11 year old and 7 year old to sleep on the sofa bed.

Think they will accommodate the extra bed, cos they are a Christian organisationI stayed at Salisbury YMCA during last trip. They provide extra bed at no charge. NZ DIY is quite simple. Can book everything online. Cheaper too. Just note that some car rental companies are at the airport, others, are not at the airport (just nearby) but will be able to pick you from the airport and drive you to their centre to pick up the car. Normally these are slightly cheaper than those located within the airport.
If you decide to take the transalpine, suggest you don’t rent car at CHCH airport. Pick a motel near the airport that can pick you from the airport. Rent your car at Greymouth. Check if they can drive you to the train station the next day by paying a charge. Airport motels normally provide airport pick up and drop off. Renting for one day is normally quite ex and troublesome. Only prob is you are probably restricted on what you can do that first afternoon. Moving around without a car is quite troublesome.[/quote]

I have not been to NI. Only went SI. So cannot opine on NI. SI is mainly sightseeing but we also did some interesting activities like jet boating, glacier landing, luge etc. JR did a NI trip. Both of us did trip reviews. You can find JR’s from page 13 and mine from page 14. They should give you an idea of what can be done at both SI and NI and hopefully help you decide which is more suitable for your family.[/quote]
