So far Msian immigration via car or bus did not ask to see My Sejahtera. Visited over 2 trips Aeon Bukit Indah, Paradigm, KSL, Aeon Tebrau City. Was only asked to sign into MySejahtera once at Paradigm at drop off point ground floor. DH went into Paradigm via carpark level, no check. All eateries and the one massage place I went to did not ask to see MySejahtera.

    • RE: IP vs O level

It’s never an easy decision between Ip and O. I “sold” the ip choice to my dd years ago and regretted my choice. My thinking was oversimplified - without the o level pressure there will be more emphasis on holistic learning without the exam pressure. I was also aspirational, hoping DD will learn to be a self-motivated, independent learner. It was a mismatch of learning styles. I forgot the pressure she faced being in the top class in her primary school, her need to be constantly “taught” and monitored. The IP route was for her an ardous path with yearly promos turning into yearly mini “O” levels. The environment did not help, failing in IP means being “seen” as a failure. Going poly after IP year 4 another "failure" It was demoralising trying to keep up where the rest could do so effortlessly. It took much effort to keep conversations open, to support her decision to continue on the IP route when it was apparent the more structured O level route or poly route would have been better. It also took a lot of bolstering to shore up self confidence and to change the narrow view that IP is academically superior and the preferred pathway. The plus side is the IP culture where studying hard is a given and playing hard in their CCA is also a given. In the end, it’s the child’s personality and the parent’s resources that will be the differentiator in whichever path to take. No one path is better or worse and like all paths, no path should be set in stone. It’s a journey. Eventually all paths lead to Rome.

Yes Mrs KS Stemcord marketing materials state that stemcells are still viable and useful after 21yo. The last I read up on stem cell banking was 5 years ago when I renewed the banking plans for 5 years. My memory could be faulty. Back then the research suggests that beyond 21 years old, there is no precedent that banked stem cells may be useful even though theoretically it is possible. Hopefully 11 years later, there may be precedents set on usage of "old" banked stem cells that were effective. That will give me the confidence to continue banking it. However, the usage of stem cells as treatment currently remains as a slim possibility. It’s more of "insurance" for lesser known genetic diseases.

      Mrs KS

I hv banked DD2 stem cells for 10 years now. Because I have not kept up to date on the latest science, I'm not sure of the value beyond 21 yo. Initially my plan was only to bank till DD2 reaches 21. I saw recently some marketing materials by Stemcord talking about the value beyond 21 yo, but I have not done any independent reading so can't comment. Been too busy so this is not high on my list of priorities cos got another 11 years to decide 🙂

    • RE: Travel: China - Suzhou

Science center stadium shopping imo is fakes. However there are many large signages in this shopping center stating that they respect copyright and are against counterfeit products. Another big shopping area for fashion is Qipu Road (七浦路) , Tian Tong Metro Station (purple line 10). Here I was shocked the olden open cubicle toilets still exists. For stationery and household items will be around City God Temple area. Shopping in China at these places need a lot of stamina. Too many shops.

Thanks for the info! We have 3 full days - arriving on a Fri night, leaving Mon night. We'll see what we can fit into the time. We're not very \"good\" tourists in that we don't necessarily want to see everything, and usually not in a great detail. We may prefer to see less in HZ and just a few things in SZ since we are in the vicinity. Might book a day trip to SZ rather than DIY. What about some of those \"water towns\"? Are they worth the travel and time?

Kyoto - I haven't been to Japan other than a short official trip in the early '90s which was confined to seeing only a couple of \"official\" places in Tokyo. My husband has only seen the transit hall of Narita! I guess we'll head that way one day, but not sure when.
Museums in China generally close on Monday. I missed the IM Pei in Suzhou becos of this but the Humble Administrator Garden was open on Monday. Given you have 3 days and intend to do Suzhou, skip the water towns. In Suzhou the Panmen Gate area, the canals and tall bridge is similar to a water town. For Hangzhou we had fun taking the local bus from Longxiangqiao to Lingyin Temple. It passes Broken bridge and Yue Fei temple so its quite scenic.
