      phtthp:
After 2018 P6 students had finished their last PSLE paper, by first week of October 2018, do P6 students still need to go back to their primary school ? Or no need, since PSLE already over ? If they still go back, what do they do in school ? Thank you, for info

They still have to attend school till term 4 ends. Different schools will have different activities planned for the students.

Come to think of it, for those posted outside their list of 6 choices, how does MOE know which school to post the pupil to ?

Is it based on the pupil's postal code (where the pupil reside), anyhow slot a space for pupil in, as long as nearby school still got vacancy slot ?
I think for these pupil's, they will be allocated to a sch nearest to their home which still hv vacancies after those who hv chosen tt sch.

      lee_yl:
Met a friend just now. He said his daughter got posted to her 6th choice school. He didn’t disclose the 6th choice school, just said anyhow humtum.

His daughter scored 238 and their 1st choice was Nan Hua (COP 241). Sounds ok right?

He was very disturbed that majority of his daughter’s classmates all shocked by their posting results. :scratchhead:
I think overall most schs COP increased this yr except for some which stayed the same or decreased slightly.
I also put 1st choice a sch tt has a higher COP for my DS (obviously didnt get it) Our 2nd and 3rd choice was 1 and 2 pts lower than his T-score based on last yrs COP. And this yr both schs COP increased by 3pts :slapshead: So he ended up with 4th choice which had COP of 223 last yr and 228 this yr.
To be totally honest, we expected him to get the 2nd or 3rd choice. DS wasnt too happy abt getting his 4th choice. His friends who are in NA/NT got into the schs tt he wanted to go. He told me tt he should have just not put in effort so can get lower score and end up in those schs 😢 I was dumbfounded and could not immediately react. So I told him tt the sch he is posted to is a gd sch and he should just accept it. After gg to the sch yest, he felt better. We told him tt due to the changes in COP of many schs, many ppl will appeal, so we should just go with the sch given as it is a gd sch and not far from our home.
My last thoughts on S1 posting is, our children have been given a place in a sch, do not have to dwell too much on it BUT be positive and make the best out of it 😄 We told DS tt it is not the sch but the person's attitude tt matters and they still have a long way to go in their educational journey.
Heads up parents! We will make it through 🆒

Husband is very unhappy with child’s results. She is already feeling very upset and he scolded her twice, saying her grades are her own fault. Then blame me for not coaching her well enough even though I took two months’ leave to coach her daily. Now both child and I have no lunch. 😞

Hey, pls try not to be too upset abt it. Just think positive and try to do what is best for your child now. Im sure your child and you put in lots of effort. PSLE is just 1 test and there will be more to come in your child's educational journey, so heads up and encourage your child. She can excel in Sec Sch and prove to your hubby that PSLE scores do not define one's progress and success in the future.

      I totally agreed with this.

Some just want to try DSA into the schools but halfway have certain doubts whether can handle the curriculum. I felt that if one already has such thought, I think better don't try. Also if one is already struggling just to meet the COP, I felt that better don't try to DSA into that school. Can you imagine with 4 subjects and are already struggling with tuition, one can't imagine with 6/7 subjects in sec school and some schools request for HMT, double CCA, dual languages blah blah....That is my opinion.

Then another school of thoughts is some will say the school already given them the CO/WL already and that means the child (who is already struggling) should be able to tahan that school. :? I wouldn't know what to say. All I can say is the school \"know how much that child\" based on the result thus far. But the school does not know how much that child has struggled to get that kind of result. So that leave the parents to think carefully.
Yup, and we wonder why the kids are all so stressed nowadays. These are the scenarios tt can add lots of pressure to the kids. It is really tough being a student in Sg. I think I also quite relaxed with my son but he still say I nag alot and pressure him :frustrated:

I guess the mindset of DSA to top schs will always remain. However, I know of parents who applied for DSA to neighbourhood schs. These parents want their DC to pursue the specific sport/field so they do not mind that the COP to enter these schs are not as high compared to top schs. Their main aim is to enter a school tt excels in the specific sport/field where their DC can stretch their potential and the sch can value add to their DC in tt area as well.

I think there are parents here who are just readers who DSA to other schs besides the top schs too. But they do not post the process or add any input here such as whether tt particular sch has sent out COs/WLs etc. As most parents who post here chose to DSA to top schs.
I read in one of the previous posts where a parent mentioned tt there is no use to DSA to schs tt hv COPs of 240 or so. I guess tt parent forgot tt not all children have superb grades. Getting into top sch is one thing but being able to cope with the CCA and academics is another factor to consider carefully. Parents know their own child's potential and abilities so they should guide their child to make impt choices such as which sch to DSA etc.
Sorry if Im off topic but just wanted to share my humble opinion 😄

      BB:

In general, this seems correct but what I have heard is that it depends on the school as well.

Let say they know that after the graduating batch moves out, they might have lesser students for CCA 1 as compared to CCA 2 and they need a certain target amount of students to be trained and be ready for competitions and etc.. then they might take in more students for CCA 1 as compared to CCA 2. It really depends on what they lack for that year which is why DSA categories may varies from each year.
Thanks for the explanation, makes alot of sense 😄

      Zappy:

On average, I'd say you are about right but it depends on the sport as well.
E.g. Track n field would likely need more students while sailing may just take in 1 or 2.
But as a whole, you are not wrong.
Wow, then it is a really tough fight for places in the schools.

Right now some of our DC have attended trials, interviews etc while others are still anxiously waiting for calls/emails for trials, interviews etc.

I think each school can only take up 20% of the sec 1 cohort through DSA and each school has up to 15 or more DSA categories. So does it mean that each category will only have about 5 successful DSA candidate?
      For example:
Sch A has 10 Sec 1 classes in 2019. Each class has 40 students. So that brings the total number of students to 400. 20% is 80 students. Sch A offers 16 different DSA categories. This means each category can only have 5 students through DSA.
      Am I right?
Sorry if my question is confusing. It just crissed my mind because I just heard that a particular school is taking only 5 students for the sport DSA that my DS is applying for.
