What supplements do you give your child for scoliosis? Anybody heard of n-acetylcysteine (NAC)? Recently read an article that NAC can help to reduce scoliosis curves and thought if i should give my DD.

Do you have any suggestion that we can try to reverse this situation?

    • RE: All About Parenting Teenagers

Hi all, does anyone of you have that same situation that you realized your 13 years old suddenly just "grow" from a child to a teenager? My DD in the beginning of the year is still sweet and happy and will share and play a lot with us but during CB period everything changes. She started to lose interest in lots of things that previously interest her. Her behavior and attitude changes too. She starts to share less and don’t like to go out anymore. She starts to get defensive and easily irritated towards us. Her behavior towards us has a 180 degree change but on "good" days, she is still the little child. Last time, she will hold my hands and walk close to me for hugs, these days she fold her arms and stand a distance. This really breaks my heart like I do not know her anymore. What can I do? Is it due to puberty?

    • RE: scoliosis

Thanks fivefingers, She is wearing boston brace as asked by KKH. She hasn't go back for doctor review yet since July. We are very worried as she is starting to wear less hours these days. She wears it to school and sleep but she will remove them whenever she comes back from school and only put it back a few hours later. Sometimes she will remove middle of the night too. We have been telling her the importance of clocking the hours and have to wear it tight but she is also at the age now that she gets very stubborn. 😞 Exercises and stretches are even harder, don't think she is putting enough effort to do them. We are very frustrated as we do not want to push her to the edge where she shut off and refuse to wear/do but yet we have to keep reminding her its for her own good.

    • RE: Yoga, pilates and physiotherapy for Scoliosis

      Hi everyone,

Do you have any recommendation for yoga/pilates/physiotherapy for a 13 years old with scoliosis?

We are looking to enroll her for extra help on her scoliosis but not sure which to go. She is currently wearing her boston brace and we thought it might be good for her to attend classes to help her.

      Anybody heard about Corefitness?

Appreciate all recommendation. Preferably around town or East area. Thank you.

    • RE: Any tutor to recommend for sec 1 science in the east?

      Morning everyone,

Do you have any recommendation for tutor for sec 1 science? Preferably in Tampines/Simei? Do not mind going to tutor 's home if required but has to be female if going to tutor’s home. Group tuition is fine too.

      Thanks you in advance!!!

    • RE: scoliosis

Thank you jkids for your encouragement. We are currently waiting for the brace and don’t know what to expect. Do not know how DD will react when she sees the real thing and having to wear it for so many hours. She is at 31 degree now and her riser stage at 0 which is why we are so worried. She still has a long way and that causes us to be very worried. Is it very difficult to put on the brace and very uncomfortable? For now, we have to ask her to do the stretching exercises and sit properly. She just turns 13 and at an age where we have to deal with her as a teenager and not as a child and can get so difficult to manage at times. Trying not to nag/control too much and yet you know you need to.

    • RE: scoliosis

hi everyone, my dd has been diagnosis with scoliosis recently and she is asked to wear brace. Can I know how uncomfortable the brace is, has any of your child coping well? What are the chances that the brace will not be useful and still cause the curve to worsen? Anybody seeking 2nd opinion? Currently she is with KKH and we are looking around to see if there is any alternative to help her.

I am heartbroken and lost. Felt so sad and worried a lot for DD. Anybody ever blame yourself that it is due to own bad genes that brought this upon child?

    • RE: Extended childcare leave

Hi, wonder how the extended childcare leave works. We able to take if child is in secondary 1, 13 years old before birthday? Let’s say DD turns 13 only in mid year, are we still entitled to take before she turns 13?
