I can’t even find NTU medicine in QS ranking!!!

NTU: 144 is under “Life Sciences and Medicine” category, but not “Medicine” category.

NUS medicine (NUS: 21) is the only one ranked in “Medicine” category from Singapore.

It will probably take NTU medicine sometimes to be ranked in QS “Medicine”.

YLL gives $1k for the student to buy iPad.

iPad coupled with GoodNotes or Notability app is a good tool for medical students to take notes with imported pictures.

TBL means self study, no lecture. This is equivalent to skip lectures all the way.

If TBL is really good, most of the medical schools will adopt it. Even Imperial College don’t use TBL fully.

Personally still prefer traditional lectures and tutorials pedagogy which our JC students are familiar with.

One of the key components of a healthcare system is the medical doctors and medical experts. These are the products of medical school. In US case, the politicians overwrite the medical experts!

Comparing healthcare system, the number of death due to Covid-19: SG 22 versus UK 34,466 as of now, despite UK has many top notch medical schools!


So, NUS YLL is not so bad, world ranking 21.

You need to ask your child which career path he/she wants to pursue, clinical research or practising medicine.

Reputation ranking of university in medicine does not really matter so much since their medicine course is controlled by the respective health authorities/ministry to meet certain standards. Important thing is the medicine degree must be recognized by our MOH if you want to practise medicine in SG. You never know when your overseas medicine degree will become not recognized by MOH, so it carries certain risk to study in overseas.

Is there government scholarship for studying medical overseas?

Based on my understanding 4 years ago, the only scholarship for studying overseas medicine degree is offered by ASTAR. It is targeted for people who wants to pursue clinical research career by studying in UK top universities. Applicant must apply to Oxford, Cambridge, UCL or Imperial College. Study 6 years for the medicine degree and followed by 3 years PhD. They must also apply to NUS and NTU medicine, and get at least one offer, and then reject the local offer and accept the UK offer. For male applicants, they must complete NS before studying at UK.

Not sure if there is any changes to the scholarship now.
