Prelims tend to be a little difficult compared to the actual PSLE…For last year, my school’s prelims were much more difficult than the PSLE, at least for Maths. So if your kids are usually in the top classes and usually hit > 85%, you could try multiplying theur prelim total score by 0.72 instead of 0.75. It’s slightly more accurate.
But if you’re typically the average student, e.g. 75-80%, 0.75 might be more accurate.

Withdrawal period over already? I thoight it was until March...Nightmares.:
@ngl2010: Yeah and they're fine with it, but I feel like it's a waste... so I'm not sure...
Since the window for withdrawal already closed, and you also think it's a pity.....you still have stamina to last another few months? Probably the beginning is the most xiong, maybe after a while you may change your mind?
Actually my son (sec2) wasn't interested in 3rd Lang too, but we 'forced' him to take up Jap. He failed term after term......& we thot that's it after he failed the subject. But apparently, he is still allowed to continue this year.
Seems like it's auto-promotion regardless of result....but no point waste time & effort if no intention to pass. Anyway, DS continued & he has definitely put in a lot more effort this year. He seems more comfy with it now plus with some sibling rivalry from his younger sis (sec1) who also took up Jap......hopefully he will pick up. Shall see if he clears the paper & still ask to quit EOY

But I really feel like dropping Spanish... widow periods for dropping out only this month and August...
Hello Nightmares. Long time no seeNightmares.:
Heyo people after a few months of hiatus.

Sec 1 is cool...Though I keep being afraid of making my classmates annoyed at me.
Homework is rather difficult, especially for my third language. Although we're only supposed to have 45 minutes of homework for the third language, I find myself spending over 3 hours completing it.
I also have a lot of graded assignments already, and 3 graded quizzes next week.
For phone, I find myself addicted to 'Flappy Bird'. So it takes up a lot of my time and I am unable to find ample time to revise.
Agree on third language difficulty. I was surprised on the homework difficulty level but DS said the test was easy. So chillax ok?
Flappy Bird is the 'in' thing right now. Do you get a lot of friends boasting their score on Whatsapp?
I think the fad will die soon
Anyway, DS said it is easier to get high score using android than iPhone
Yeah XD my friends boast their highscores on whatsapp. One of my friends even got 168. :yikes: But I'm controlling it now. Still find it hard to bring myself to revise though. Also getting kinda addicted to online roleplaying (where you do post-by-post roleplay, e.g. you type 'blablabla did blablabla' etc. And another person replies.) And now I'm going to stay back 4 times a week ans I have to fetched home asap on the last day for tuition... -

...First you say Term 1, now you say May. Make up your mind.Nightmares.:
GEP curriculum ends in Term 1. Still have to do the normal P6 curriculum. Thus, not the same as Mainstream timeline.
Mainstream pupils finish their curriculum by May. They prepare PSLE in the month of Jun, July August. It is not a valid argument that GEP pupils at disadvange due to lack of time for preparation.yusim_lim:
*whispers* So that certain parents on KSP don't complain that MOE is being unfair like...Ahem...some people on this thread.GEP students who meet the moe promition criteria at P6 should be allowed to choose their choice school because all exams paper are set by the GE Branch. By doing this, it will only be fair to them. If they have done well in their exams set by MOE, why would they need to do the PSLE, which does not test much of what they have learnt. Unless, what they are learning is useless.

GEPers actually score lower than Mainstream students, as Mainstream students spend arounf 2 full years preparing for PSLE while GEPers spend around 6 months preparing for PSLE. So there is less expectations for GE kids.
poohwinn68:
Main Stream pupils DO NOT spend 2 full years to prepare PSLE. It is obvious that they will not finish their 6 years curriculum by end of primary 4. Curriculum finishes by end of term 1 in P6. Pupils have 3 months to prepare their PSLE. This is same as GEPer's timeline.Being selected into the GEP programme is an opportunity to expose kids with natural talents to higher order learning and experiential learning. GEP curriculum only ends in Term 1 of P6. My kid only started doing the PSLE papers nearing the end of Term 1.

GEPers (like myself) may be equipped with higher order thinking skills, but then they may not be relevant to the PSLE. Several things I learnt...weren't ever tested in the PSLE. Alot of things in the PSLE weren't really taught much in our syllabus.Zelda574:

I do not quite agree with this statement. We know cirriculum of GEP students are different from main stream n ended just few months before psle. They only sit for same prelim as mainstream. However, I do know the teachers prepared the Geppers intensively for psle. They probably did 2 times more of practice papers more than my dd's school for one school I knew. There is basic syllabus to be covered be it GEP or mainstream and my impression is that Geppers are tested on higher level order thinking skills than mainstream. I heard from my friends that their P4 language is like P5/P6 and she needed to buy P6 assessment book for her P4 dd etc.
I cannot quite understand that there should be less expectation on Geppers for PSLE and if mainstream students can really spend 2 years to prepare for PSLE, then aren't they supposed to be able to do well in majority? Even after my dd had finished her psle, I seriously still do not quite know how to prepare well for psle if I have to do it again because we can never predict the questions and there were \"surprises\" here n there. I have not even included the fact that beside the knowledge, one's state of mind in taking this very important national exam will affect the performance and ultimately the psle results as well. So there are many factors to affect a child's performance in psle.
If there is different criteria for Geppers to be eligible for EESIS scholarship or for mainstream to be eligible for EESIS, then moe should name it differently. It is unfair to have different criteria for Geppers and mainstream based on results taken on same national exam.
In contrast, I feel differently in that Geppers has chance to be exposed to higher order thinking skills and therefore less expectation should be on mainstream. Imagine mainstream students make up of students from different schools and the resources they are exposed varies, may not be as rich and wide as Geppers. A lot of students who score well in actual fact do not depend purely on school resources but \"good tuition\" resources. I also heard of some analysis before that some GEP schools have a large percentage of students scoring 250 n above because some of the top classes/students of main stream have chance to be exposed to GEP cirriculum as well. Of course, I do not rule out the fact that some smart ones have no tuition at all. These are the really good ones because with just resources from school, they can do as well. And I think every school will be good school if they have the same good resources and every student has chance to be exposed to good resources.
