how well does St James kindergarten core curriculum prepare children for Pri 1 Chinese, going non-SAP school ?

Not very well at all...so that is why I am considering pulling out after this year so that my son can benefit from a better K programme elsewhere.

I say this as my friends who sent their kids to SJCK all complain that their pri sch gg children are all finding it difficult to catch up.

Feel so sayang to pull my boy out...but I think the school has become complacent over the years and they are definitely over-rated...

Oh btw...fees just raised again....sigh....

i totally agree with you. My kids learnt all the preschool fundamentals from home. 3 hrs a day 5 days a week could really learn alot. Not much demands, but really would prefer that all the foundation teaching should be from school and not from home. Before the fees were raised, I felt that I could still leave with it, as long as the children are happy in the happy environment and patient teachers. Really agree with you that they are overrated. Alot of hard work from parents and enrichment to prepare the children well for pri school. To withdraw the kids, there are my worries such as the readaptation of school.

with 3 or more kids, how do u budget expenses for tuition?
i m sure cant tuition all subjects for all kids, unless super rich.
even if got $, time coordination is a problem, n plus the multiple trips.

Actually it depends on individual's situation. In the case of FTWM, I feel that my resource is limited so I've to outsource the tuition portion to external parties. My dedication to the kids is to arrive home by latest 8pm so that we can start our daily 2 hours revision/ homework time. Given the no. of kids, I cannot afford to coach them myself as it will be a situation where all will be neglected and I will be frustrated.


I totally felt the same when I coach them all alone.
We try to schedule tuition on weekdays and some unavoidable ones to weekends so our weekends are effectively burnt. That explains why I am enjoying every moment of school hols.... OMG 3 more weeks :!:

I am so glad to find this thread. I hoped to learn more from parents who have more kids and destressing outlet methods. I have 4 kids from 1 to 7yo. These days I am in a dilemma. Hubby requested me to be SAHM. The step to sahm is soooo difficult. So much stress and what if on my mind. I know tt the time after work is not enough to share amongst them. Yet at the back of mind thinking of hw much classes my not-highlt paid salary can pay for.

my daughter has been in CMA for 1 yr 2 mth, she is somehow slowing down in her CMA work and refuse to do more than what the teacher had stamped. I know many parents in CMA is rushing their kids to finish the book so that they could get on to the next grade, not sure whether this is healthy for the kids as they may feel very tiring.

My worries is such too, i dun wan to rush my girl, at the same time i dun wan her to take it too easy and become her attitude.

The greatest fear of all is she giving up when the learning get difficult.

My son also attends CMA, been about a year now. Very good course, highly recommended! I send my son there because my son is left-handed. Wanted him to use his right hand more often, and CMA uses 2-hand technique. He didn't seem interest in music so didn't send him for piano...


Anyway, ks2me, the amazing thing about the abacus is that it allows you to do complex arithmetics, more than + - x /, even includes decimal places.. It's also about brain training cos it ultimately trains you to do Math without using the abacus (that's why it's call mental arithmetic). But almost like Kumon, it's practice, practice, practice...so got to do lots of homework.. I mean, if you are Kiasu like me, you'd want your kids to do as much as he can everyday so can finish the course early and move on to other things. Also, once the kids reach primary school, there will be more school work to worry about, so the earlier you start, the better...usually about 4 yrs old.

Truly amazing to see your child calculating faster than you, without relying on ANY tools.

your son must be learning at thunder speed with wonderful results. I hoped that the same for my girl, my main objective is not the mental, if only i see her more focused and concentraion level upped, I guess I be as glad as u.

By the way, understand that the number bonds are being taught in primary school. In that case, will the kid get confused on the different method used when they go P1?

Thanks for all the great info, for the affilation I would have to give up on nyps, I do love nyps alot, but I figure that my girls would need the affilation help to ensure that they are at least in a good environ for the 10 years.

Whether they made it to JC, or poly, at least this 10 years I knw they are in good study/peers environ. In case they are late bloomers, the affilation will still enable them to have more time to prepare themselves as mebe they havent kai qiao during pri sch days. If by sec, still haven kai qiao :roll: , it would be their destiny. **Ren ming**.

I have check out some schools to be considered as my 2nd or 3rd choice like RGPS and Nanyang around Bukit Timah area. I still find SCGS is most suitable for my girl, not so stress for my girl during PSLE as their cut off point to Secondary School is lower. I know cos I was very stress when my son did his PSLE last year.

From the forum, I know is very difficult to apply for parent volunteer that qualify for phase 2B, even my friend has submitted the sametime with me last year June but was rejected. As still now, My application is still pending. I will try to call the school again.

My girl going for P1 registration next year 2010. What about phase 2C, I stay within 1KM. What is the chance? Balloting?
