I need some advice for next year's ballotting strategy: :nailbite: given its Golden Pig and additional 1200 children of school going age (SingStat) its gonna get worse before it gets better ...
2B I will try for St Hilda's (not a great chance but something)
however as we live on the Bedok side I am struggling with my back up plans for 2C.
Opera Estate or East Coast Primary (we would be outside of 1-2 km for most good schools like Red Swastika, Yu Neng, Feng Shang, so no need to even try... :sad:
Both of these schools are ok.. the only difference I guess is that Opera estate seems homelier, smaller, friendlier.. so anyone could give me some advice that would be great.

I have gone through the website for OEPS and can't find the dates for the school book order and pickup.. could somebody confirm when (i.e. what date) the books and uniforms will be on sale?

I just went to legoland this Sunday to exchange my pre-purchased annual pass … I waited in line for an hour… just to exchange the pass… here are some of my observation.

1. Legoland must have sold more than 35000 passes already some as low as 20 MYR… yest the same pass that cost you $80++ dollars in Singapore were avaiable to Johor government officials for that amout… at least this is what the lady in front of me had told me when I questioned her about the 20.00 MYR on her printout… seriously?
2. The annual pass will not get you very far… you still have to line up… given how many people have annual passes on any given weekend it will be a long wait… There is a HERO pass, which like universal studios allows you not to have to wait, however these are not yet priced and not yet available for purchase moreover they will need to be purchased each time on top of your annual pass.
3. Workmanship… if one call it that… This is meant to be for kids, there are sharp edges everywhere… patched up botched up finishes… the steps leading from the carpark to the walkway toward the main entrance is of illegal height and width… an adult foot can barely fit and its far too steep for any kid to climb, which leaves adults to have carry the kid, but wouldn’t you know it they have slippery concrete. Yesterday there was a light drizzle and with sports shoes on we almost slide all the way to the bottom of the steps…
which leads me to the car park… what did they run out of tar???.. there is a tar in between the car parks lanes but you actually have to park on dirt and debris… why oh why with a German at the helm they couldn’t get it right…

So sad… btw nothing is yet open they still builiding it nowhere near final touches… or at least this is what I wouldn’t call final touches.
the store is good, the one restaurant they had open also ok. but as usual slow…
I am sorry if this seems like I am not being fair, but this is about the kids… about safety… it has to be right, it can’t be just so so… v. disappointed…

When my son was little I ended up buying Huggies nappys across the causeway in tesco Malaysia … He has super sensitive skin and would develop a rash if left in nappies for longer than 20 mins after it was urinated on… I found Huggies quiet absorbent and reasonably cheaper in Malaysia … Also if your wife travels say Thailand nappies super cheap there too compared to Singapore … Good luck !


Also I just remembered a conversation a while ago with a neighbor. She has a bedridden disabled child has a government grant to have nappies subsidies adult diapers … So the wholeseller for tena lady delivers to her house directly and the government helps to pay some portion of the cost…
You might need to go thru a poly clinic plus a psychologist letter but maybe worth a try ?

I would like to know for PV duties, can a parent bring along the child? I am still thinking of the PV part since there is no schools within 1km from my place and those between 1.5-2km all hold balloting only for <1km

I am doing PV in a branded school.. most of the programs you will have a student assigned to you, hence it will be nearly impossible unless you are say doing ad hoc and such as packing up a cupboard or something like that. Most parents do not bring their kids along.... infact all only one has brought her DD along (DD very well behaved mind you and stayed in the library. while the parent did the volunteering duties) and even that is looked upon with certain resentment.. not advisable in my opinion.

From what i know - the Australians do. But only for the subjects they are really bad.... that is eg. failing. For us, 90 marks still must have tuition as it should be 95 marks at least (may be 100%) :evil:

CMA: Don't remeber exactly but 150.00 per month (pls correct me if I am wrong)
Drum lessons: 180.00 per month
Chinese: 120 * 4 = 480.00 per month
Golf: $272 per month

Phonics, montessory maths are included in the childcare fees no additional

I am going to ask a stupid questions here… It appears to me (and bear in mind that my son is still in K1, so I am very new to this) that primary schools which have a GEP cohort will naturally have a higher T score as their avg. is higher. from all the data in this thread I think (and i know that is actually refuted by the MOE) that the scores are not averaged on a national level first, but on a school level… and somehow that weighted average is than used … hencforth according to rough calcs I have done… based on heresay, it is better to go to an average neighbourhood school, and score top marks than go to a good school and score average marks… On top of this if your MT is not Chinese sure a winner? It seems to me that the neighbourhood schools are coming up for a reason… there has to have been some odd thing done to the calc. of the average? It has to be weighted if the school doesn’t have GEP, hence their A or A* is higher…???
