Hubby & I are so so impressed by this post (see below, copied from ACSI Confessions) written by an ACS rugby player who was part of the team that played at the National Stadium last week.

While some adult netizens are bickering small-mindedly over 5 MRT trains, see what goes on in the mind of a 13, 14 year old. He shows bigness of heart. WOW!

\"So the Goh Keng Swee Shield is back home. Game over! Mission accomplished! Coaches happy parents proud praise aplenty! We can now breathe.

This is our year; this is our call: bring home the Shield whatever the cost.
Don the Bumblebee, shave to bald, not an individual but the Botak Team. So we Samson botaks be - for ACS's cause. Scratches and scuffles, sprains and pains, one by one - we took them all. From Hong Kong to CCAB and to the Stadium we went, chasing down our foes with big margin wins.

And now a proud moment came, a sweet taste of glory. The golden medals on our necks, the cheers loud and clear. I saw painted faces, flying flags, flashing cameras, reporters too! I heard friends calling out names. As I stood there with my band of botaks, singing that grand illustrious song, my heart surged with pride as I made sense of it all. I forgot the mud rain and sun. I forgot the tough tedious drills. O sweet victory it was.

Then.. as I looked up the red white stands, I saw that golden kallang wave: principal, teachers, family and friends. I saw my friends clapping, smiling with pride. I saw my family, their eyes fixed on me.

A moment of epiphany it suddenly dawned, as I fought back my the tears in my eyes.

For suddenly I felt so humbled to know, we botaks weren't the only ones who came for the Shield: THE WHOLE SCHOOL had come with us to take it home..!

So THANK YOU every one! - for going with us and coming for us, all five chartered loadful of trains.

      TBIYTB!

P.S. And please don't try to guess which botak wrote this. Anonymous botak let me be : )

    • RE: Funding cuts for top independent schools in Singapore

Interesting, this same \"senior education correspondent\" keeps harping on RI and ACSI  On Thursday (6/2) in ST and on Friday (7/2) in Asiaone. Different articles but under same title - Can students of premier schools sweat it out? Special mention of RI and ACSI again and how their students get to study in air-con comfort and swim or play tennis in their schools' own sports complex etc. Talk some more later got opposite effect: MORE parents want to send their kids to these schools! :yikes: These schools should thank her for the intensive publicity! :siam:

    • RE: Secondary School Literature

Hi, ds is in sec 1 express stream in ACSI, having some difficulty in literature. My friend recommended a tuition centre which has very experienced MOE teachers but for Literature, they prefer to do school clusters, i.e. having students from the same level, same school studying the same Lit texts. Hence, they can pace the school’s teaching accordingly and personalise the lessons to suit the school curriculum and assessments. They only need four to start a class. If you are interested, can you pm me. thanx.

    • RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

Does anyone know how the Year 1s are allocated to their classes? There seems to be a mix of ability in all the classes but my DS’s teacher told him that the better Express classes are 1.5 to 1.9?

I also heard from a friend who said that there are boys who enter via DSA Sports who are doing IP although they don’t meet the IP cut-off at 256. I thought that these boys can only do Express and IP is either via DSA-HAST or PSLE t-score.

There seems to be a sizeable number of boys doing HMT, my DS is in the minority who does Normal Chinese. He and two others from his class has to combine with other Express and IP students to form a class for Chinese lessons. I am very surprised because the general perception is that ACS boys are not so pro at Chinese!

    • RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

      Hi Parents of ACS(I) students,

My son is going to Sec 1 next year. I got the info from the orientation pack that there will be 15 Sec 1 classes altogether (1.1 to 1.15). I have a couple of questions concerning class allocation:

      1. Is it true that the Express classes are relatively larger (30 over students) while the IP classes only have 25-26 students?

      2. How are the students allocated to their Sec 1 classes - by PSLE T-score?

      TIA! 😄

A close fren of my gal whose brother had chosen ACSI over RI despite having an agg score of 27+…
There were some others whose scores similar to him were there too…

      To each his own…
My neighbour’s kid, a brilliant boy from ACS Junior, also chose ACSI over RI. Comes from family of ex-Rafflesians from grandfather to aunties and uncles and their spouses to his parents. His mum told us that he talked to them couple by couple telling them to let him go ACSI. We find it refreshing that a kid of his age has such convictions, indeed to each his own.

      julialai:

Was so glad when DS was in P5 and I managed to find all the right tutors for him, feeling assured he was in very good hands. Now after crossing the PSLE bridge, got to source around for good secondary tutors for him again, maybe trial and error for some time before hitting the jackpot..
      Hi Julialai,

I found a good tutor for my DS through a nice lady from Tutors' Circle last year. Very professional, she discussed my DS's needs patiently and linked me to a suitable tutor. Really impressed with the professional work. They interviewed and verified tutor's qualifications and got the tutor to show me the education certs on the first lesson. Can't remember her tel no. You can email her at [email protected].
The Math and Science Competition Teams are both legitimate CCAs that can be taken as a second CCA and will fulfill the 'second CCA' requirement.

I understand that a student has to join a uniformed group plus a sport or club. Can he join any 2 CCA, such as a sport and the MCT?

The default is one UG and another CCA. Exceptions are normally only made where one CCA is a sport in which the student is performing at a high level (national, regional, international). Mostly in such cases, the sport becomes the dominant CCA and the UG becomes the recessive or vestigial CCA. :)
THANK U Autolycus!
