    • RE: Crescent Girls' School

      MsZeus:
Hi all! I'm new to this, just wanna check does your daughter get to be in her selected CCA?

      Hi!

I have had some parents who approach my training institute to work their children towards the entrance test/ audition for public speaking and more specifically debates.

Generally, if you display existing portfolio or strength in a certain area, in CGS especially, they are happy to assign you to the CCA of your choice.

Alternatively, students can also take it upon themselves to display inclination and talent towards their desired CCA.

For more information on what we do can PM me.

    • RE: Comparing English Enrichment Programmes

      Hi Parents,

Will just do a quick share of what OpenMinds Training can offer your child. We are a learning institute aimed at improving a student’s oral, public speaking and logic building competency.

We are currently doing an intake for the Young Debaters Preparatory Programme Cycle 2.1 2015, a fun-filled two-day debate workshop geared towards students. We now have more classes to provide more precise attention for your child.

The goal of this programme is to groom your child in four important skills areas: confidence, logic, engagement and perceptiveness.

Feel free to PM me to find out more.

    • RE: Tuition / Enrichment at Secondary level

      Hi,

I conduct tuition and enrichment courses so let me share some of my observations.

There are many ways to approach extra classes. A common approach is to let the child gain confidence in a subject they are weak in, and to finish unending piles of school work. This is very important to ensure the student does not lose interest in school altogether.

Another approach is to expose the child to different pedagogies of learning, as opposed to route learning. I have found that this created more independent learners who are able to stand on their own, and use techniques learnt from enrichment class to solve their own problems. I am personally a fan of this approach of learning, as a way to supplement the monotonous school rhythm. Unsurprisingly, a mixed stimuli of activities have made for more alert and dynamic students who think beyond the textbook.

Do check out what pace your child prefers - ultimately, it is not the expectations we want to foist on them, but what they find interesting. Only then would they truly learn to be independent learners.

    • RE: Where GEP students go for tuition?

      Hi Parents,

OpenMinds Training gets quite a few private tuition requests from NYPS, RGPS and ACS Primary. We mainly train these students on creative techniques to do well in the English and Social Studies Portfolio assignments, as well as general knowledge and debate in order to prep them well in advance for DSA interviews.

A common request from parents is to expose their children to competitive debate environment to prepare them for the school team.

      Hope that helps.

    • RE: Debate Help!!!!

You can consider going for OpenMinds Training’s debate courses conducted in the holidays. They are aimed at preparing your child/yourself for debate competition or just to get a headstart amongst your peers.

OpenMinds Training focuses on building structure to ensure young students learn the technique, not just the content.

You may PM me if you have any questions. Hope this helps!
