I am not a newbie just that I haven’t been active for a while until now. See that you have been helping other like-minded parents with some of the problematic math questions, I decide to consult you. Have been racking my brain over two P5 math questions since last night and still unable to come to any satisfactory answer. Am hoping that you could help:
(1a) In a cookie eating competition, Aisha ate four times as many cookies as Bee Yian and thrice as many as Celine. If Aisha ate 88 more cookies than Celine in the competition, how many cookies did Aisha eat in the competition?
(1b) In a cookie eating competition, Aisha ate twice as many cookies as Bee Yian and thrice as many as Celine. If the 3 of them ate 88 cookies in the competition, how many cookies did Aisha eat in the competition?

Hi, does anyone know of Joanne Choo’s credential? With due respect, the testimonials sound too good to be true. English is a language that can only improve over time unlike Math concepts and formulas. How could one who’s very weak in the English language, even failing the paper, pass with flying colours unless they memorised essays & simply plonk it in.


I understand from the various testimonials that many of those who had benefitted
seemed those who are very weak such thay any improvement thereupon would show drastically.

Would a child who is consistently in band 1 benefit from her teaching and go a further notch up?

Without seeming complacent, I have a child who consistently hovers around lower band 1 & higher band 2 and presently learning under a particular private tutor. She’s been with the same tutor for 3 years & yet her result remain more or less the same.

I am hoping to find one who is able to assist on this basis.

Any thoughts?

However, I am still a little confused by what I read from their website. It says: \"The Josephian Programme(JP) is the 10-year linked education programme offered by St. Joseph's Institution(SJI) and St. Joseph's Institution Junior (SJI Junior) to all its boys from Primary 1 to Secondary 4. The JP provides each boy who spends 10 years in SJI and SJI Junior a strong eucational programme that is alligned and systematically developmental in programmes and pedagogies.\"

Maybe they should rephrase it as I have the impression that it is not only available but compulsory to all SJIJ students.

If SJIJ is running their own JTP won’t it defeat the purpose of doing what other schools are doing e.g. having two best classes as clearly the best 50 who qualify for the JTP would surely be from the two best classes. As long as you are able to get into the 2 best classes then the chance of being selected to do the JTP would be very good unless you are among the last 10 in that 2 best classes, assuming there are 30 in each class.


I understand what Kiasulang meant by "they will know whether they are in the best class". The school usually do not openly announce this or tell the parents. In fact in a particular SAP school where my niece is, I heard that their best classes are taught by HODs. Not sure how reliable this piece of information is though.

By the way, does anybody know which class SJIJ belong? It clearly does not belong to the cluster of high profile schools like Raffles, St. Nic, ACS, Nanyang etc. and yet it isn’t appropriate to associate it with other mission schools e.g. Monfort, St. Gabriel, St. Anthony (Bt Batok). Any idea?

And for everyone’s info, when I bought my son’s uniform, I was told that other than their usual PE T-shirts and pants, they are also required to have a separate set of attire showing the respective colours of the respective "Houses" they belong. Can’t get it now until school reopens when they will be informed of the colours of their Houses.

Normally, JTP has two classes consist of 25 students each. Students who cleared the first GEP screening test will automatically join the JTP unless opt out. This year, 39 students qualified for JTP. The school will then choose the other high ability students to make up the balance.


JTP students will be taught more than main stream in Math, Science and English. This gives high ability students who do not qualify for GEP a chance.

That's not too bad an idea. Does that mean SJIJ does not band the students into what other schools called \"best class\" etc?

Also, I was told that it is compulsory that all students wear their school tie during assembly and on special occasions. That means they practically have to wear it everyday because they do have assembly everyday don't they?
