      Enjoylife:
Thank you, very kiasu2010, for the very useful info.

Hi, thought I would join in on this interesting discussion on CCA, especially on Shooting.

My wife and I also had concerns on the time-consuming travel to Yishun for this CCA. On months when there are shooting competitions, we were told the boys can be expected to train 4 to 5 times weekly. On other months, the weekly training frequency is 3 to 4 times.

Our son went for the trials yesterday and was given the form to apply for Shooting CCA (the PRC coach liked his steady hands when holding the pistol). He said he was 4th on the list. We are already speaking to our boy on considering an alternative CCA.

He also went for the String ensemble trial and looks like he might be offered a place there as well. They said they would sms him soon on the result of his trial. However, he prefers shooting over the cello.

One other CCA that he was told he had a good chance to get accepted was Judo! My wife was not keen on him doing Judo - fear of the pospect of broken bones and limbs.

Anyone has comments on Judo as CCA?

Anyway, we now have a challenge trying to manage our boy's CCA expectations and wishes.

      Hi again!

My son will also attend the HCI DSA selection test on 24 July. Besides GAT, there will also be English, Chinese and Maths tests.

Can anyone please share on what type of questions the student can expect for the English, Chinese and Maths tests at HCI?

      Thanks.

Hi Pateras, how are u able to make it for both? I tot HCI is full day from 9-5? Heard from frens last year tat HCI was really brain draining and a test on a child's stamina to go thru different test and end the day with a interview.

      Hi YKiasu,

HCI has its test from 8am till 2pm. RI will start registration from 2pm but will start its paper at 2.30pm. It will be a mad rush to get from one place to the other. To any parent who is facing this predicament, I spoke to HCI today who advised such parents to tell the HCI teacher-in-charge that they will need to get their sons out by 2pm to rush over to RI. I also spoke to RI who advised that parents should try to get their sons to RI by 2.30pm latest.

By the way, can you please find out from your friends what type of questions were asked by HCI last year? For example, for English, were they grammar or vocab or comprehension or composition writing? For Maths, were they Maths Olympiad type of questions?

      Thanks for your help.

      Hi ptnttsg and vlim,

I greatly appreciate your perspectives. But we are definitely not harsh on the kids. We just request them to share since we had shared so much with them (especially with Ruyu who asked so many questions on DSA, on GAT and other issues).

We are just reminding them that sharing cannot be a one-way street. Is it being harsh or reminding some simple morals?

      Hi Pateras,

Thanks for sharing what info you got from RI. My son is also writing the Half-day selection test on 24 July but in Mother Tongue - Chinese domain. Let us hope that the kids who have appeared for Half-day selection test on 10 July share with us at least a few tiny winy bits of info.

All the best for your ds and for all students trying for DSA.

      Hi tiger262,

Best of wishes to your boy, too!

Hi there! I have just signed up for this forum.

My son has been selected for the RI selection test on 24 July under the English domain. I called up RI to get more clarity on the scope of the test but they wouldn’t comment much except that students can expect MCQs and Qs that test writing skills.

Can anyone shed more light on what a student can expect for the English domain test at RI?

      Many thanks in advance!
