DS said there is no new lessons during supplementary class for math and science. Mostly the teachers gave them more practise execrises related to what had been taught in class and went through with them.

For english and chinese sometimes new words and phrases were introduced and more practise execrises. Anyway the math and science teachers are not from their class…so there we have a rough ideas now…

DH is going to clarify with the HODs and i will update you on these matters…

Me too…just hoping for a pass in HCL and work with it from there.

DS has already made plans with his friends. He is going over to his friend’s hse this weekend to play vanguards. After tmrw last paper he said he just want to chill out for a day without any studying. He knows he still has to continue his regular self study because he said he probably didn’t do so well in CA1.

He complained the exams had been tough. I asked him to treat this as a "wake up call" to prepare for PSLE…so much homework and so little time to disgest, with CCA, House practises, and not to mention those 2 days of compulsory extra supplementary classes. Next term i will take him out of these extra classes and do home coaching. This way he will have more time to do his self study and also have sometime for execrises. Never mind if i have to stand up to those teachers and write official letter to school. (that what they threaten the kids)…

      Hi,

I got DS’s FT notice for the 1st term schedule. In it says that there will be supplementary classes for the entire term ( twice a week on Monday and Thursday from 2 - 4pm. On top of this DS CCA day falls on Tuesday…and occasional House practises !!! So technically he will be in school almost entirely week from 7 - 4.30pm…worst then working…

Now my question is : Is going to these supplementary necessary ? Do we need to religiously follow the school’s schedule just because they are in P5 now and perhap preparing them mentally for PSLE ???

I heard DS said some of his classmates will not be going even though FT mentioned it is compulsory. My DS’s HMT tuition class falls on Wednesday so practically entire study week will end at 5pm not including time for his homeworks or revision…

I like to hear from those whose have past experiences esp the P6 mother if these supplementary classes in P5 are important…thanks…

    • RE: Teaching Chinese at Home

I work with DS on the chinese websites recommended by school such as Zhishiboa, moe's recommeded chinese website under the student resources and his elearning website etc.

I realized boys cannot sit patiently just to study chinese. As most of them like to work on computer, might as well go to these websites for revisions. I sit with him as a guide and give a watchful eye so that he will not go onto \"other\" websites. Hence nowaday he is more willing to study chinese as it is less \"dry\" now. 😉

He also likes to work on the games after revison. They revises characters learning through a series of short games. DS starting to like the short chinese story. :rahrah:

For me as long as he is interacting with chinese, i am happy.Sometime after we finished, i'll just let him work on other things with the computer for another half hour. I am minful not to let him stay online too long because i am worried he will get addicted. 😓 to computer......didn't want him to stay at the computer all day. There is definitely life away from PC... :please:

    • RE: OnSponge Maths - Discussion

DS has been on Onsponge tuition since begining of P4. What i observed from the outcome of this tuition is that he no longer afraid of \"problem sum\".

Although i don't see immediate improvement in grade, what i saw is that he is able to approach the problem sums with the \"method\" taught. Hence, if he continue to practise regularly, i am sure one day he will get the grade he wants... :xedfingers:

I heard from DH that the teacher told him by end of DS's P5, they'll complete their syllabus, the rest of P6 will be lot of revision and practices.. :salute:

DH felt that this tuition is good for DS and wants him to hang in there :salute:

Agreed 6 weeks to reflect and work on their weaker subjects. I spoke to DS about enrolling him into writing class. He was upset but i had to hold my top to explain to him : apparently he is still not writing with conscience. He just speed write and think as if it is done he did his part. So he still cannot \"see\" :? what was wrong about his writing.

I had to sit him down to explain the different between lower primary and upper primary level requirements. To sum i told him P1-P3 he is to \"learn\" writing and from P4-P6 he has to write to \"learn\". :xedfingers:

He has to develop the ability to recognize grammar & spelling error; and verb & subject agreement. Not sure if any or my words get into him...sign...I also told him its time to slow down to reflect on why despite so much efforts we put into his study and yet his result did not meet his own goals. (he got band 2 for math and english) ...

Anyway, let not give up, give a pat on our back and look forward to SA 2...another 8 more exams b4 PSLE ( P5 ~ 4 exam & P6 4 more phew 😓 ....)

    • RE: Travelling with child alone

      Hi,

Last june holidays i wanted to travel with Ds alone. But then as advised by fellow kiasu parents i went with him alone (without DH) joining in a small conducted tour group (12 pple) to melbourne.

I was very happy because my DS (9yr old) has shown much maturity without daddy around. He was able to take care of our things and was surprising quite mindful of me... :imcool:

At first i was worry travelling with him alone but after last trip i have gained much confidence and we already planning for our next trip alone free & easy. He wanted to go osaka's pokemon centre....so let see how is osaka's condition by end of the year.

If you are worry, why not try joining a small guided tour. Don't joined those 30-40 pple tour. Too crowdy for comfort. The one i went with was rather comfortable with 4 family only. There was a mother and daughter pair too in our group. They travelled alone too :hugs:

      Cheers !

    • RE: Universal Studio or Zoo?

Maybe true but we must not forget about the adults that are coming along. Universal Studio make a better interaction for both age groups. I find singapore zoo rather boring.....

After Universal Studio, sentosa is also another source of sight-seeing and entertainments  unlike the zoo after you leave that the end of your trip...boring....

    • RE: Club 2002 Kids

      Hi,

Is it a MUST to have a CCA? DS wants to drop all CCA next year. He also does not want to go via DSA route because you need to be committed to "that CCA". He wants to keep his options open. Any advice?
