Dino,
depends on your budget and tonal quality you are looking for… there are used and old European violins, newly made ones etc. Fractional european violins can come from Germany, France, Czech. Hardly from Italy, they mostly produce full size.
2k and above - probably newly made in workshop but not "hand made" by the master. Think Synwin sells some german violin e.g. Walter Mahl and Hoffner. At 1/2 size, Gramercy seem to carry mostly china violins. Not sure about other places.
Older European violins (made around 1900 or so) are slightly more expensive. In the range of 2.5k and above, likely also workshop product but wood aged with time. Quality really depends on case by case and availability.

RE: 2012 P1 Registration Exercise for 2013 In-Take
Hi,
anyone can share on the eligibility to register under siblings route. If the older sibling was registered in Sch A for a short period of time and within the year, transfered to Sch B. Will the younger sibling qualify under Sch A sibling-registration? -
RE: Teaching Chinese at Home
Tamarind,
thanks! I searched on singpost and there was no record. On China post mail checking, it only indicated sent out from china in March. So now, I will send email to dangdang to investigate… dunno whether to re-order via daigou in the meantime.
I just ordered using daigou and it arrive 1 week+ later. So much faster. I will definitely use them more often. -
RE: Teaching Chinese at Home
chrismei, tamarind,
I ordered at dangdang.com and goods sent from beijing on 8 March. Then I checked my status today and it indicated on dangdang.com that on 7 May, the goods are delivered and received. But I had not received anything. I only have the article number.
Do you know what I can do about it? I sent dangdang.com an email for explanation already
Anyway to check and retrieve the goods in Singapore? -
RE: Suzuki Violin - Discussion
Thanks.
There is no major performance upcoming, just felt that an occassional practise during the trip which is quite long given its 2 week, would be good to keep in good form.
I cant find a mute his violin size just now in the shop… so may have to drop the idea. -
RE: Suzuki Violin - Discussion
We are going on a 2 week holiday and I am rather concerned about how we can continue our daily practises. Anyone who had young kids playing the violin and had experience bringing the violin for practise during their time overseas?
Is it advisable to practise with a rubber mute? As we will be in a cold, winter country, are there any specific things we need to do to protect the violin?
