The cc provides the instruments but the students have to keep them in the storage cabinet after each lesson which is a hassle for me esp I have 2 kids. Learning at home I will have to buy a guzheng.

    • RE: All About Guzheng/Pipa

It’s been about 4 months since I started this forum. Let me update you on what has happened since. Finally I enrolled my 2 girls in guzheng lessons at a CC and they started their 1st lesson last Sunday. After the lesson, they commented that guzheng is easier than piano. After the 10 lessons I would probably like to get them a private tutor as I find it a hassle packing up the instruments for 2 children at the end of the lesson. Does anyone have any good recommendations for private teacher? Someone has quoted me $50 per 45 mins. Is that too expensive

On piano, my girls are still continuing but I am thinking of getting a new teacher who have different teaching methods. Has anyone heard of Prelude Music at Novena? Some feedback will be much appreciated.

    • RE: 2009 DSA(Direct School Admission)

Can any parents share what CCA a child should choose in order to stand a better chance at DSA and have wider school choices? I have a child who is not academically inclined and I would like to help her to get into a choiced school when she is at P6 in a few years time. Some people say we should choose CCAs which have regularly won awards. Some say we should choose an instrument which not many people take up such as Cello. Would appreciate experienced parents please share your thoughts on this?

    • RE: Mum...may I...

These plastic studs can be found at pushcarts in any shopping malls. Remember seeing some at Vivo City basement and Tiong Bahru Plaza 2nd floor. I agree with Schellen that the glue cannot hold the stone in for very long esp when I bathed in them. The plastic post also bent after sleeping in them for a long time. What I did was I bought a few pairs at one go. When I eventually got tired of these undurable (though undurable the stones were full of lustre…better than diamonds) stuff I tried swtiching back to metal earrings and that’s how I discovered that I have recovered from my allergy!

      Hi All

Going off tangent here for a while…tryng to give Jennifer some tips on her problematic ears.

      Hi Jennifer,

You mentioned that your choice of fashionable earrings are limited due to allergy. I had the same problem for many years until I discovered plastic studs. I wore one pair for a period of 2 months without removing them. To my amazment I can now wear any type of metal (except gold) without the constant itching. Try it!

    • RE: P1 and P2 exempted from examinations

I have heard from my daughter that one of her classmates recently cried when she had 95/100 for one of her tests. She told my daughter that her mother said that she had to get full marks! Really don’t understand what’s on the minds of some parents.

I am one of the kiasu mums too but I do not use marks as targets and it really takes the stress out of studying. I was preparing my kids for exams like any other mums but surprisingly my P2 daughter actually told me, ‘mum exam is so really fun!’. Hope she adopts this attitude thru out her studying life!

    • RE: Will you give up your job if your kid wants you to stay?

My kids are 7 and 8. I’ve once been thru this dilemma too. MIL even enticed me to quit my job by paying me my last drawn salary. I’m glad I made the right choice. I actually turned down an overseas posting (even though I could bring my kids and maid along) subsequently even switched to a less demanding job with no travelling, no after-hours work and slight pay-cut but I have absolutely no regrets as I am happier now as I have found a balanced life. I used to reach home late and by then my kids were already in bed and most of the times on weekends my mind was either on work or I was physically working on the pc.

Besides in our family, you have more say if you have more pay so that means you better work, be it with husband or MIL. MIL treat you better if you have an education and work. Over here, MIL will try to pay you not to work for the sake of her grand chidlren but mind you you will eventually become powerless as you will be at her mercy when it comes to decision-making on matters. So I decided to continue to work but chose a less-demanding job.

    • RE: All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers

      Hi pianojazzy

It’s me again! Still shopping hard for a piano. Difficult to make decision. Guess I got to based my decision on the piano brands/models that are usually used in ABRSM piano practical exams in Singapore. Could you please kindly advise?

    • RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos

      Hi spring5

Seems like you have got a good deal for your exam-grade model. Could you let me have the contact of Shelley’s at Eunos? I found a Shelley’s thru yellow pages but it is at Toa Payoh.
