    • RE: GEP 2015 - Screening & Selection

Thanks all for your replies and advice.

There are pros and cons of staying in Mainstream. There are also opportunities and exposure but tons of worries if one were to take up the GEP offer.

I do understand that one has to meet the baseline after they join the GEP.
      Given this scenario:
      - Child has the right attitude, determined and hardworking, with the ‘stretch’ in subjects, demanding programme, projects, expectations which equate to increased workload, extra time and extra effort to be put in, will it affect the self esteem of the kid if the kid falls below the baseline and struggle in the programme? The kid may be very comfortable and shine if remain in MS but the reverse if he/she is in GEP. Will the kid feel demoralized in the competitive environment?

      Thanks.

    • RE: GEP 2015 - Screening & Selection

If a child is currently in a neighbourhood non-SAP school doing normal Chinese, would it be tough if he gets into a GEP SAP school doing higher Chinese? Will it be a big jump from normal Chinese to Higher Chinese in P4?

    • RE: GEP 2015 - Screening & Selection

      Hi,

Does anyone know about the GEP curriculum? Like for Science, under mainstream, they cover lower block and upper block science and different schools cover different science topics at different level. For example, some schools cover cycles in P3 and some schools cover cycles in P4 so what happen when they get into GEP?

      Thanks.

    • RE: 2015 PSLE Discussion and Strategies

      Hi parents/students,

I would like to seek the advice of parents/students on the enrichment classes for the 4 subjects.
I understand most important is which tuition/centre is suitable for the child and which one the child learns better from. There are so many centres around thus having a hard time evaluating them.

      Does anyone have any recommendation?

Thanks and any advice will be appreciated.

My apologies if I have posted in the wrong thread.

    • RE: Comparing Science Enrichment Programs

      Hi,

I am trying to source for an enrichment class for P3 Science. Does anyone have any comment on the following?

      - Learning Lab Science
      - Smart Science Lab

Kindly advise if there’s any others that I should also consider.

      Thanks.

    • RE: All About ABRSM Grades & Support

Hi, i need advice on the following queries:

      1) Is it advisable to take exam for every grade so that the syllabus will be covered? Is it ok and will there be any impact if a student skips grade 3 and take grade 4 or is it advisable to still learn grade 3 pieces but skip the ABRSM exam?

      2) Generally, how long will it take for a student to prepare for grade 3 or grade 4? Will it take longer to prepare if a grade is skipped?

      3) Is it advisable to take practical first followed by theory, i.e grade 2 practical followed by grade 2 theory?

      4) Is there any recommendation on non-exam pieces to work along (for a student who just completes grade 2)? I thought it is quite boring to just play the 3 exam pieces whole year round.

      5) What does it mean by technical developments? How do we know or assess if a student’s piano foundation is good? Is there any book recommendation to build technical foundation?

      6) Does it mean that a teacher is not good if he/she just focuses on exam pieces and has no progression plan for the student?

      7) Any advice how to sight read faster? Any issue if the student is still counting (FACE, ACEG)?

      Thanks.
