RE: Have you ever wondered...
Zeit:
Kuek was brought in by Lui Tuck Yew (fellow army colleague), not Khaw. Don't think Khaw would offer Kuek the job.
In contrast, Seah Moon Ming, a trained engineer from NUS, is a better fit. Seah was brought in by Khaw. He is a very charismatic man. Very good rapport with his plant workers. I hope he takes over from Kuek in due course, as in promote him to become Exec Chair (though he is already 61?).
Latest news : Temasek Holdings unit Pavilion Energy's current chief executive Seah Moon Ming is stepping down, in order to focus more on his role as chairman of SMRT Corp.
Hope this is the start of a turn around for our beleaguered smrt. -

Thanks Zeit for the link and sharing your insights and observations ,I do agree on some points. But this could be treaded with some caution to save a limb

RE: Have you ever wondered...
It was during Saw’s tenure that the first signs of unreliability of the trains crept in , hence the public was baying for her blood. Undeniably, it was still more reliable than the present times. However , not forgetting she was probably reaping the benefits of the pioneers’ hard work which led the smrt to be named one of the world’s most reliable rails in the first 15 years. Since the early 2000s after smrt was listed , the plans for replacement of aging assets and upgrading of signaling systems were put to the back burner ( likely under her tenure)and we are now bearing the brunt of this. To further add to the woes, when Desmond Kwek came onboard , the very culture of “deep seated issues” remain still “deep seated issues” under him after 5 years.
I fully agree they have to stay on to clean up the mess, things should hopefully get better.
Sorry OT here in this thread. -
