I am currently an MOE Kindergarten teacher. Here's my take for parents considering MK.

      Pros:
      1. Subsidized school fees
      2. Priority entry into primary school

      Cons:
      1. Parents need to put their child in enrichment centres outside MK to prepare for primary school (because phonics, spelling and maths are not in the curriculum)
      2. Large percentage of teachers are fresh diploma grads who are learning on the job
      3. High turnover rate of teachers prevalent in most MKs tend to affect children's learning and development
      4. Children lack opportunities to develop their sense of curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills as curriculum is teacher directed and not child directed
      5. Curriculum is not actually play-based. The children only get to play at learning centres for about 10-15 mins or not at all due to time constraints
      6. Snacks are pre-bought processed food and not freshly made
      7. No toilet training provided for children
      8. High teacher-child ratio of 1:25 means less attention given to each child
      9. No assistance given to children with mild special education needs despite accepting them into MK
Thanks for sharing! Any idea what is the reason for the high turnover of teachers? Is this prevalent in older MKs too? I had thought that being an MK teacher offers a stable career given it is under MOE.

How is the partnership between KCare and MK? Does KCare complement the curriculum at MK?

What is the usual rate for private individual beginner's lessons?

The rate of piano lessons are varied depending on piano teachers qualification and experiences. Sometimes, the accessibility to the location of the piano student’s home is also a factor in the fees.

I m within 1km for Hong Wen & within 2km for Kheng Cheng.
I m torn to cast my final registration “vote” as I don’t know which probability is higher: within 1km balloting? Or try KC coS their 2C phase vacancies are almost doubled than HW.
Friends that I ask around for opinion feel wasted if I don’t try my luck at HW. But seriously this try my risk is stressing me out coS I don’t know what’s my next step if I can’t get into HW.
      Any thoughts on this?
I recall KC has balloted for SC < 1km before. Though probably not as oversubscribed as HW.

Wonder if 2c applicant numbers for the more popular schools with MK will differ from previous years given some of the 2c demand may have shifted to 2a2.

Most students are using the e-dictionary. It is more compact to bring to school and I think it is also easier and faster to search for the words.

Recently I bought the Besta all Pass S1 for my daughter. I wanted to buy Creative PX2201 at first but my kid said it is too bulky and heavy. It is almost the size of iPad mini. She prefers one that is more compact. In the end, she chose all pass S1.

      Both are the latest model.

Thanks for the helpful information. I went to the websites to take a look. The stylus input seems very useful for words that we don't know how to pronounce. And there are illustrations too.

Do you find the explanation, examples and related words/terms as detailed as those of a physical dictionary?

For Pri school kid, is physical dictionary or electronic dictionary more recommended for learning the language (detailed in terms of explanation and examples), and for examination? Does it need to be brought to the school often?
