Hi! Heard that Raffles Diploma results are out. Anyone with J2 children with stats to share? What % were awarded distinction and merit respectively?
Another question - any idea how many are awarded the MOE Pre-U scholarship each year?
Thanks in advance.

RE: O-Level Additional Math
Can anyone help me out with the following sums please? Thanks.
1. Find the value of a and b for which d/dx(sin x/2tan x + cos x) = a + bsin x tan^2 x/ (2tan x + cos x)^2 (Ans: a = 1, b = -2)
2. Prove the identity sin A - cosec A/cos A - sec A = cot^3 A
3. Find all the angles between -90 deg and 180 deg inclusive which satisfy the equation sin(2y - 30 deg) - cos 65 deg = 0. -

A level
so it's A levels at the end or IB?red rose:
Thanks for your help, Pinkapple.
I'm preparing for my Y4 IP year-end exam.

Thanks for your help, Pinkapple.Hi firebird,
here u go...

btw the last part, \"average velocity\" I have a bit of problem.
some says average velocity = total displacement/total time,
others say average velocity = (area under v-t graph)/total time,
which is the same as average speed.
average velocity = (final velocity - initial velocity)/total time
is not applicable for this question because this formula is for constant acceleration only, which is not the case in this question.
btw, this is not O levels right?
what paper are u preparing for?
I'm preparing for my Y4 IP year-end exam.

RE: O-Level Additional Math
Dear Jieheng or anyone who can help, I would appreciate assistance with this question on Kinematics.
A particle passes a fixed point O with a velocity of 7m/s and moves in a straight line with an acceleration of 2(3-t)m/s2, where t is the time in seconds after passing O. Calculate:
a) the value of t when the velocity is again 7m/s
b) the position of the particle at this instant
c) the speed of the particle when it is travelling at maximum velocity
d) the total distance travelled when the particle comes to rest
e) the distance travelled in the 8th second
f) the average speed and average velocity of the particle in the first 8 seconds
of the motion
Thank you in advance.

RE: MOE pre-U scholarship
Hi! Anyone knows roughly how many MOE Pre-U scholarships are given out every year? Thanks!

RE: Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)
Hi, just wondering if anyone can share information about the Leadership Through the Ages Programme.
1. Do interested students just apply or is there a selection process (e.g. interviews etc)?
2. How long does the course span and what is the commitment level like (how many hours per week)?
3. Lastly, I would like to know roughly how many places there are for this programme. Thanks in advance.

RE: Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)
I would like to find out, for RI Y4 year-end GPA, is it true that the GPA is computed as such: 55% based on Y4 results and 45% on Y3? Does this mean all individual subject scores are recalculated for the 2 years and then the final, new GPA computed? Would appreciate if someone could confirm this.
Also, anyone knows roughly what the average final-year GPA is for Y3 and Y4 for the past few years?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) [*IP]
Are you talking about the one that is bench-marked with RI?
Partially. M2 (combined paper) was a killer with apparently many failures, even in the Maths RA classes - waiting to see the school median. Other than M2, M1 was also unusually tough compared to previous years, with again many failures; Bio this year saw a drastic drop in scores not because the paper was difficult but because of extremely strict marking rubrics. Average was apparently under 60% and contitutes 30% of final GPA, hence my concern.
Ds, yr 4 in RI, had taken the papers and hadn't received the paper/results back. He heard teacher saying that Maths marking is less straight this time, adjusting to RGS's answering details/steps.
Overall, many of ds's friends and classmates are gaining GPA. Mostly because most boys switched from playful/not-secrious mode to serious mode in yr 4. He hasn't seen any drop of GPA so far. May be I'll have more to share when he has the results back.
Thanks for sharing, Soda. I would like to find out if something I heard is accurate. For RI Y4 year-end GPA, is it true that the GPA is computed as such: 55% based on Y4 results and 45% on Y3? Does this mean all individual subject scores are recalculated for the 2 years and then the final, new GPA computed ?

Hi! Just wondering if it's 'normal' for Y4 GPAs to take a plunge. This year's Y4 papers have seen many killers and am getting quite worried about my daughter's year-end GPA. Does anyone know if Y4 GPAs are required for University admissions, since there are no O level results? Thanks
