RE: Marymount Convent
My granddaughter enrolled in Marymount yesterday. We think the school will be a good fit for her.

RE: Marymount Convent
She can read quite well, in Chinese as well as English. Been in Berries for a while, as well as MFS since she was a baby. Her main complaint is that English grammar is more complicated than Chinese. I understand that the classes in P1 and P2 are grouped according to the age of the kids. Is that correct? Makes sense.

:thankyou:

My girl is in P2. We r very blessed ! We think we we got best English/form teacher but not a very good Chinese teacher for 1.5 years.
if u choose MCS, do sign up for parent volunteer. It makes a lot of difference.
If your child is academically inclined, she will find P1 & P2 work quite easy. Otherwise the pace is very comfortable as long as she can read a bit by end k2. MCS has a new principal who's really forward-looking & great leader by example, so parents in PSG are looking forward to positive changes

RE: Marymount Convent
You must register this year. If you put her into another year of K-2, the only way she can get into Primary School is via the AEIS, which is extremely difficult. Your chances of getting into P1 via Phase 3, while not good, are far higher than getting into P2 via the AEIS. You need to ask to join the closed Facebook group Singapore Expats in Local Schools. Read the Pinned Post first before posting any questions. There is a lot of information there. They are planning a get together soon for those trying to enrol in Phase 3. Some foreigner kids did get into Marymount last year in Phase 3. But the school may be more popular this year because it has moved back from the holding site. Frankly, Mother Tongue is the least of your problems right now. My granddaughter is a PR looking to enrol in Marymount. Just inside 2ks. Not sure what the chances will be.

RE: Q&A - P1 English
We are Australians. My granddaughter has been in My First Skool since she was a baby. Now in K2 and loves going to Berries; very confident about her Chinese. She asks me why English grammar is much more complicated than Chinese. (I have to take her word for it that this is so…) So I resort to drills the way I was taught - present tense, past tense, past perfect tense. "Today I go, yesterday I went, I have gone." etc etc No need to worry yet about all the other tenses, moods etc. She makes fewer mistakes now. Unfortunately, her parents were never taught grammar because the "progressives" took over the curriculum in the 1970s.

RE: All About Pri 1 Registration for Foreigners & Phase 3
Foreigners have about 30% chance of getting any school. Suggest you ask to join the closed Facebook group Singapore Expats in Local Schools. Read the Pinned Post first.

RE: Verbal Dyspraxia / Apraxia
I have just convinced my daughter to have her son tested. His kindy (My First Skool) has been recommending that she get him tested, but she has been in a bit of denial. He is now two and a half, and can’t seem to pronounce anything properly. He understands everything and seems normal in other ways. Maybe a tendency to be a bit too tidy - but the kindy is encouraging this. He has a five and a half year old sister, and relies on her quite a bit to verbalize what he wants. The kindy is bilingual of course - not sure if that matters. I understand that it is very important to try to get a correct diagnosis before the age of three. It’s much more common in boys than girls. About 30% of kids do NOT grow out of it. My own son did, though he was not nearly as bad as my grandson.
