• RE: Wanna to know some good places for holiday?
Like to know if anyone of you has any problems getting hotel accommodation at cheap or reasonable rates if flight is booked last minute - like one day to less than 2 weeks before leaving to Taiwan, Japan, New Zealand or Europe?

If it is a self-drive trip and not super peak season, it is still possible to get reasonable priced accom as you travel to these places. We had done it for New Zealand, Australia, Scotland, England.

But bear in mind - booking early sometimes will have better rates such as early bird rates with free breakfast etc.

Actually sometimes we didnt book accom before we went for our holidays was usually because we werent sure how many days we would like to stay at each place. DH said we must slow down to smell the flowers along the way…

If i were to re-lived it despite burning midnight oil, i would gladly do so! It was soooooooooo fun! :please:

I cried when i have to sell away the flashcards :faint: Seller felt bad about me letting go and DH thinks i am siao and emotional :siao:

:salute: Me....i would glad go through it again.

I dont think people understand the hardwork that went into doing those cards.

If your kid is Harry Potter fan, you can plan Scotland/England… We went for 18 days in June 2009. DD2 was almost 3 and DD1 in pri1.

We did the Harry Potter ride on Jacobite Steam Train in Fort William, Scotland. This is the train you see in the same movie and we also visited Alnwick Castle. This castle is the one where Harry learned to fly on his magic broom and where Ron crashed his flying car.

The highlight was actually Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park in Scotland. If you reads love novels, Northumberland is the place for you. There is this place called Farne Island (bird watching) and Holy Island that you must visit.

We got lost many times as DH refused to use expressways. He drove us through small roads, through little Scottish towns where farmers still use Horse Carriages, wild flowers and we counted wild hares till DD2 begged us to stop!

We stayed in B&B along the way and at some places, we got really good deals.

We didnt plan in advance where/how to go about this trip. We only decided to fly into Glasgow because the air ticket was on sales at $ 680 only compared with the usual $ 1400-1500 on Emirates. So we bought the tickets on a Thursday and flew out the following Friday nite!

Scotland/England is truly a very nice place to visit. If the air ticket prices are affordable again, I dont mind go there again!

    • RE: Shichida Right Brain Training - Discussion

I gave some comments on Flashcards at another link on KSP. Here’s what I wrote, now edited to suit this topic discussion.

I am very pro on flashcards. I do know some parents are not but I AM.

DD2 was 16 months when she attended Shichida and she stopped just before 5 YO.

Over the years, I made more than 2000 flashcards. I spent 4-5 hrs every Friday nite for years to make those cards. We flashed twice daily morning/before bedtime, each time 200-300 cards.

No point spending 80 bucks per lesson/week if you dont make the extra effort with your kids at home to do similiar actitives on daily basis.

Today…she is very focused on whatever she is doing and has mega memory. Because it was easy for her to remember what her teachers had taught her, she knows Hanyu Pinyin and can read around 5yrs old. She also enjoys school very much and teachers have commented on her progress positively.

In short, parents need to understand/appreciates and believe in Shichida’s program.

    • RE: Is your workplace pro-family?

She would be clearing the rest of her mc entitlement of 30 days + extended mc of 10 days + 13 days of annual leave brought forward from last year. Wah… I was concerned, was she erm… Sick? She said no, all she did was to ask her doc to issue letter for her weak knees.

Well done. Win hands down. I pity her team.
She has the cheek to tell you?! These people are strange right? So she has not used any of her annual leave for this year if she is clearing from last yr?!

Imagine once I heard Colleague A said she would have 40 days leave next yr. She meant \"20 days leave + MC 14 days + 6 days Child Leave\" to me. Really got such people okie :yikes:

      yes, horrible, isn't it

Really wonder which doctor they go to. Is it they buy a season pass or MC booklet beforehand.... 😆

And they play punk. Leave not approved, on the day that they applied for that leave, they will say they not well, got MC.
Colleague A went on MC on last Monday and today again becos her husband is on leave today. Isnt it obvious?! So someone needs to do her work today! Next wk she is going for 2 wks vacation.....She has no more leave so resort to taking MC now.

    • RE: All About Finding & Evaluating Tutors

      Hi,

Any kiasu parent has recommendation for Male Maths tutor for upper primary? I am looking for someone who is experienced and can deal with different personalities. Thanks but no thanks to tuition agent, please do not reply to my post here.
Hi, just curious why you are asking a Male tutor? Most of us will prefer a female tutor. What different personalities do you mean?

There is a male tutor near Hougang Mall. He teaches Math to my friend's hyper active boy in pri3. My friend is quite happy with her son's results. But its 1 to 1 tuition. Apparently this same tutor has another student with anger management in sec2. But this sec2 boy is in group tuition.
