Curious. Is this like the humanities program? Do you take 9 or 10 subjects including 3 humanities? What’s the likely career path of such combination? Thanks!
In upper sec, students are required to take \"Singapore Studies\" as a compulsory Humanities subject. They can choose to take only \"Singapore Studies\" or take up to 2 other Humanities subjects, depending on the rest of their subject combination. A triple Humanities / triple Science combi would be 9 subjects.
Ah I see. Interesting.

In other words, you can do Singapore studies with both history and literature. Total 3 humanities. And if you include the 2 languages, 2 math and 2 science then it’s a total of 9 subjects. Correct?
Math is counted as one subject. They also have to continue with CID.

For ours, LA, HMT/ MT, 2 MAs, Chemistry, (some form of) SS are compulsory in upper secondary. For one (of my kids'), (what I'd refer to as) 'triple humanities' means the class gets to choose a 2nd humanities (HI), & they study humanities more in depth/ enriched (I'm guessing, cos they don't have literally 3 humanities subjects but are active in external programs). For the other, 'triple humanities' means the class gets to pick a 2nd humanities (HI/ GE) and a 3rd (Advanced Humanities). Triple humanities is challenging
Ic ic... 🙂 Is it a Humanities Programme that you're referring to then for the class that does external programmes?

Oh, in RV, they cover the content of E. Math and A. Math as one subject.

I guess they will be given priority if they r in the talent program

Realise that the talent programmes for each subject start in different years?

Oh btw, am I right to say that there won't be subjects like FCE, Music, Digital Literacy etc in upper secondary?

My previous history teacher played a trick on us. She told us that our exam questions would only on those topics before 1945 even though she also taught us the Cold War between the USA and the USSR in 1960s. However, the exam came out with all questions on the \"Cold War\" and most of my classmates failed the exam. I managed to pass the exam with high score because I loved History and I even studied on the topics which were not likely included in the exam.

This is what my History teacher wanted to teach us...don't anyhow control by exam.....
That's a pretty nasty teacher you had. I'm not sure what is her point in doing what she did. All she is saying is that it is ok to lie with a straight face. If a teacher doesn't want to give hints, then don't. It's better than misleading the class.
She wanted to know who were really love to study History and who were just came for exam. Some of my classmates were angry especially those parents were kiasu type.....some just laughed and said that they would study all topics in future exam.
Pretty sure this would turn out differently if it happened in recent years... 😓

They will be happy to study and get a good exam result if they love the subject.
In the ideal world yes, in the real world ..somethings got to give. They can love all 3 humanities but only have time to study for 1-2.

How much of lower sec history is built up towards upper sec and to JC? Are they related?
Upper secondary History - content wise, it's new content. However, the skills required for Source Based Questions (SBQ) will be a built up from what has been taught in lower sec so it is necessary for the students to have a good grasp of the answering skills taught in lower secondary.
To add on, believe most schools will not demand that you take upper sec History to offer History at A levels, but certainly the foundation will help give the child a headstart.

Hi, I'm just kaypohing, as often... Would your dc be prioritised for special program selections (Hssrp for instance, is she invited to the upcoming month-end symposium? Moot parliament? Literature seminar?), if she takes up triple humans?

Our schools have similar programs, & afaik it is challenging in that the students have to produce numerous papers, of sufficiently high standards, which often require lots of reading up, writing & rewrites. Besides interest, I'd advise my kid to take it up, Only if there is a well-thought out curriculum; an expert mentor (external/ university?) will be guiding; there is accreditation. All the best!!

Hi sky! Interesting... I hadn't thought of whether there'd be priority for special programmes. I'm not very sure actually but will certainly try to find out if I get the chance. Thanks!
