Hi, I'm just kaypohing, as often... Would your dc be prioritised for special program selections (Hssrp for instance, is she invited to the upcoming month-end symposium? Moot parliament? Literature seminar?), if she takes up triple humans?

Our schools have similar programs, & afaik it is challenging in that the students have to produce numerous papers, of sufficiently high standards, which often require lots of reading up, writing & rewrites. Besides interest, I'd advise my kid to take it up, Only if there is a well-thought out curriculum; an expert mentor (external/ university?) will be guiding; there is accreditation. All the best!!
Hi sky! Interesting... I hadn't thought of whether there'd be priority for special programmes. I'm not very sure actually but will certainly try to find out if I get the chance. Thanks!

Any parents have experience with a triple humanities combination in upper sec? Is it very challenging?

And of course, some parent will insist that t-score is RIP and Let It Go, lets not talk about t-score anymore.

I am very sure by this time next year, nobody will talk about Tscore anymore.

If one is aiming for a school with indicative COP of AL13, then just aim to score for AL12! That’s all one needs to know.

It depends. For the top tier schools, differentiation using AL COP is very straight forward because the raw score band is very narrow. However for mid and lower tier schools when raw score band gets wider, it will become less reliable.

Like the earlier example I given, if suppose your child is applying a school with AL COP of say 15 or 16, and there are a bunch of say 5 to 6 schools within same COP. As parent would you make an effort to pick the best school? Of course you will. And how are you going decide which is the best school?

My guess is when it comes to decision making, parents will naturally look back into the t-score COP of these individual schools for reference. Would you not do the same?
Perhaps some would but the idea is for parents to look more closely at school culture, CCA and programme offerings etc and decide which is the best fit for their child.

yes yes on cca dismissal time..upper sec usually ends later like 4pm like that ..
4pm is quite early for CCA dismissal I thought... my DC ends CCA around 6pm usually. But I do hear that they're either having eCCA or earlier CCA dismissal for the next few weeks.

When one says, 45 / 100 = AL6 in the AL environment, that’s absolute.

In a t-score, when one says, below 50 for a subject, I think we have to be specific.
- Are we saying the subject’s raw score cannot be below 50?
- Or are we saying the subject’s t-score cannot be below 50?
The follow up questions for both scenarios under t-score would then be:
- What do you think is the cohort’s average score for the subject?
- What do you think is the cohort’s spread like for the subject?

It’s highly probable that a raw score of 45 would translate to a subject t-score of > 50 depending on what you assume to be the mean and SD.

Unlike AL score, a raw score of 45 / 100 in t-score setting is meaningless without context. As said, t-score is relative. Depending on how well / how badly the cohort does, your subject t-score will move and down accordingly.

So? One’s struggle in a subject doesn’t necessarily translate to a low t-score if everyone else is struggling (😉 MTL ).

If 350 raw score is equal to around 258 to 260 t-score (multiplying factor of around 0.74-0.73)
So how can you even suggest that that a 45 marks raw score can balloon to be >50 t-score?

I think statistic is certainly not your cup of tea so its not surprising that you find them meaningless

If you really believe that T-score is calculated as per your words in bold, no wonder you do not get what we're trying to explain here.

Please help me understand why would anyone want to know the lowest possible T-score for an AL score when a child's PSLE performance for each subject is no longer calculated relative to the performance of peers in the cohort.

A child PSLE AL score is determined by subject raw score and knowing the equivalent t-score (which is tied to raw score) will give parents a better indication of the AL COP. e.g. if its going to be easier or harder then previous year? Is the school lowering or raising the achievement standards? and more importantly, what a child could possibly do to move up the AL score to avoid balloting.

Since all PSLE statistic from before 2021 are captured and presented in T-score, its not possibly to have a meaningful discussion of relative academic achievement without making reference to t-score. As I said before AL scores are just grouping of individual score raw, and t-score are tied to raw scores.

E.g if there are 4 schools with AL13 COP and their 2020 COP were t-score 210, 220, and 230, 238.

With a score of AL13, which school will you logically consider to apply first?
For the sake of argument, you can claim it depends, et etc but in reality, I can assure you that most parents will jump on the 238 COP school because the standard should be higher.

T-score discussion is history? I dont think so.

There may be some merit in comparing AL scores to T-scores, but certainly not in equating them the way you are doing. If MOE's definitive reply is not evidence enough, I'm pretty sure none of what we say will be too. 🤷

To know if its harder or not, we must first establish what is the lowest possible raw score or t-score under AL13.
To achieve the lowest score under AL13, you will need to score AL 1 , 1, 5, 6 or AL 1 , 2, 4, 6 and that will be around t-score equivalent of 216 and 220 respectively. The reason why its so low is because of the inclusion of AL6 subject which can go as low as 45 marks.

In 2020, I believe the t-score COP is around 235, which mean AL13 COP will actually make it easier compare to 2020 unless ACS (I) reject AL6 subject in the mix.

If AL COP is lowered to AL14, then the lowest possible t-score will become 202, which is AL 1 + 1 + 6 + 6

But parents need to beware that 2020 235 COP is borderline AL12 and AL13, so in 2021, its possible that COP might end up being AL12 instead of AL13. Which mean there could possible be balloting at AL12.

And of course, some parent will insist that t-score is RIP and Let It Go, lets not talk about t-score anymore.

Gonna chime in here not because I think t-score is history (although technically it is) but because we can't equate AL scores with t-scores given that t-scores are not raw scores. It all depends on the cohort performance and one's relative performance to the cohort. AL scores are a whole different basket of fruit where the cohort performance is not a factor per se. They're fundamentally different. Why force fit the two together?

you are wrong. t score is tied to raw score. if you disagree try prove me wrong.
Of course the t-score is calculated based on raw scores... but they are NOT raw scores. Have you seen the formula for calculating t-score?

Zac's mum, how do you think the impact is on ACSJ/P boys who intend to go to ACSI? easier or harder?

My personal opinion: harder.

Just taking reference from my own child’s past score, which was 14. From the raw marks, I estimated that to be ~234. But when the AL AMR was revealed, it turned out to be 13.

For SJI O level track affiliates also, it seems to have been set higher than expected (12).

Maybe my kid’s marks are not representative of the whole range of 14 (there is in fact a whole range of combinations & permutations).

So unless some other parents have some raw marks to share, we won’t know.

It seems to me that they want to keep the standards high, leaving ACS Br and St Pats as the safety net schools. That’s what it looks like to me at least.

Hi any parents feedback to school that the dismissal time for the students should be adjusted during this period, as my kid is taking public transport bus and mrt home, the dismissal time 5-6pm which happens to be the peak hours for the transport system. I hope during this covid period dismissal time should be earlier to avoid travelling with the crowd.
Are you referring to dismissal time after the afternoon CCA and other special programme activities? Normal lessons end by 2pm on most days for the lower sec at least. Or is that not the case for upper sec? Not sure abt JC too.
