Greetings to all parents and students! This is my first post in nearly ten years! Can anyone help to direct me to the appropriate channel/resource for an application by a child who has studied in public schools in China (more specifically Shanghai) all her life, and is hoping to apply to NYJC, among others, to pursue CLEP? Would expect her to sail through the rigors of study but any additional information would be of great help. Thanks in advance!

Are his Sec 2 Form Tr or Subject Tr aware that he was under a lot of stress ?
If they had not before they themselves would be by now, given the unfortunate turn of events. 逝者已矣. Let's give the family some space for private grieving and not ask too much.
Let's also spare a thought for Poh Meng, the new principal. He is also under a lot of stress - and not just now. -

Well said. Unfortunate, but our hearts go out to his parents. No one knows the real reason, so no point speculating..
He was a smart & sociable boy.. A gem in the SO team..
May he be resting peacefully in Heaven now.. RIP.. -

I believe it is reported in one of the Chinese 'tabloids' (for want of a better word). The child - bless his soul - was a Mathematic Olympian.octoberbaby:
Sec 2 boy living in pasir ris committed suicide?
That's what i heard last night too. Heard that he was the hardworking type.
Hopefully it is not due to pressure of being in RI. -

“Just to clarify the misconception…”
I resent your term “misconception”. I have stated my own view in as neutral a manner as I could. If you think it is ‘misconception’ on my part, you can PM me instead of telling the world at large.
I would appreciate that you refrain from using such innuendo-laden term in the future.
And do not bother to even reply. -
RE: Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)
Thank you, Valyap,
My son just got a CO fr VJ.
After much discussion, DS is now open to go to VJ , if RI WL does not convert to CO. This has certainly released the stress cos previously DS die die also want to go RI. Now at least we hv an open option. thank you ![/quote]
VJ is as good as any top JCs despite the perception of many parents. Your DS will enjoy his experience… -

My dd likes math and is good in science , would like to take up engineering as a career …she has a choice between rgs and nus high .
Please feel free to share your views
We like the confident rgs girls ,but would rgs be as good as nus high in math and science ?i mean in terms of exposure that nus high gives to its students
My take - and it was once shared by a former senior NUS member - that students in the mainstream schools (RGS included) are on track for GCE ‘A’ Levels which are recognized by foreign universities, whereas NUSHS Diploma is more relevant for admission to NUS (and other local universities). Thus, a lot depends on what your child wishes to do in the future.
Of course, any top student in either school would not need to worry since he/she would gain entry in elite colleges anyway. The same goes for top students in ‘lesser’ JCs…
FYI, my DD was not accepted by NUSHS but gained admission to RGS. So there was no basis for comparison. But we have no complaints. -

Well said. Now that is a shining example of sensible parenthood. Your daughters ought to be proud of you (and your other half)...
It depends on the child. I have 2 daughters - one is in RGS and enjoying it, even though she is busy and there's lots of schoolwork plus other stuff going on. She works fast and independently, enjoys the variety, and copes OK with the workload even though she does get tired by the end of the day. But she calls it \"happy\" busy! I can't imagine my other one surviving in this environment as she learns and works more slowly, needs more hand-holding and doesn't cope well with pressure, so we have chosen a very different route for her. So you really need to assess your child's personality and ability. If she is an eager and independent learner, has high energy levels, likes challenge, variety and being busy, RGS would probably be a good fit.qqnn:
Is life in rgs very tough? My daughter can't decide if she should choose rgs ......
I am sure there are many gep students in the school -

I believe the school admin has numbers of bus operators. Hope it helps.Hello dear KSPs,
Can anyone provide me with the number for the bus operators in RGS?
And is there lots of traffic outside the school in the morning (Bcos Anderson Rd seems to be one way)?

RE: Taking 3 H3 subjects?
passion4science:
I have heard there are students taking 3 science/maths H3 subjects? Unblievable.
Amazing! I am already having trouble advising DD on whether or not to take 2 H3 subjects. Was it not said somewhere in the forum discussions that one can take only 1 H3, or was it some combinations that were prohibited?
Anyone care to give some input in H3 Maths and Chem?
