hi janet88, just to confirm you are referring to the Nordic cod liver oil that has helped your son with his sinus?

My dd has sinus every morning when she wakes up...tried sleeping with and without aircon...not much of a difference for her.

Any other suggestions that have worked for your son ?

Otherwise nordic naturals cod liver oil has high concentration of DHA EPA etc... good for brain development. I am giving my 4 yr old these and they r terrific and effective. Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks for the tips. I did buy Nordic naturals with peach flavor for my son when he was 4...after a while he refused to take it, claiming it was smelly. He is now 15. Don't know when he started having sinus in the morning. I bought the Nordic mango with EPA and surprisingly his sinus stopped. Just one teaspoon daily before bedtime. Have to remind him to take it every night. Since we don't eat fish everyday, I figure this would be effective.

    • RE: All About Handwriting

My dd also had horrendous handwriting when she was younger...

How i helped her over come it was by putting in the effort for her to write on single line exercise books just practising her alphabets for almost 2 months...before finally moving on to having her write short words and eventually sentences. I must say it is boring and mundane but i see the fruits of labour now that she has such neat and legible handwriting at her age now in p5.

I cant imagine if I had not done it...

some things really have no choice but to put in the hardwork, patience and effort to do it...

do feel free to pm me 😄

Is the illegible handwriting cause by poor motorskills?

Just to share that my ds1 have poor motorskills since young. In fact the CC teacher has mentioned that when he was in K1. We were encourage to let him play with playdough.

Also, we started him off with piano lessons so as to improve his motorskills. I think it helps as he can write neater, that is as long as he puts in effort.

Hmm, how old is he now? Offhand, I would say that to accuse a K1 @ age 3(!) of having poor motor skills is kinda like saying rain is wet? Isn't it a bit premature to slap such a label on a child who's barely pass toddlerhood?

Sorry ah, just speaking aloud.

I suggest that the best way to improve handwriting is to practise: *writing* - one learns to ride a bicycle better by practising on a bicycle, not by flying a kite. Also I think it's important to bring to the child's attention what good handwriting looks like, because they don't really know.

I am pretty sure that children these days all have relatively worse handwriting than us because we did not have mobile phones and computers when we were in primary school.

Very simply: they are not as practised in handwriting as we were.
They simply need to write more, and using pens and pencils, not \"write\" on a computer.

In general I personally feel that parents should not jump to conclusions prematurely esp. when so-called experts liberally label your child with some scientific adjective so that they can charge you thou$and$ to remove the label.

SORRY! Absolutely no offence intended to all of you here, just my personal opinion! 😓 I'm sure there are some kids with genuine problems, but for the rest, please consider my thoughts. 🙂

    • RE: All About Full-Time Maids

I totally agree. Having a good maid if tough to find these days.

I have had my fair share of pretty terrible maids who would use my things without asking...one that I had to report to the police for stealing and have her sent back.

      Sigh... indeed...

      Hi Tamarind

Thanks for the blog. It's scary! I'm actually at the cross road as to whether to hire a new maid or go maidless. My maid contract ending 21st Sep this year. Either options looking daunting. Siggghhhh...

Whether you get a good maid or not, depends on your luck.

I changed a total of 8 maids, before I get my current maid, who is a very good maid.

If your maid is not too bad, you may want to consider extending her contract. A good maid is very hard to find !

Anyone can share what type of lip balm to use for subzero conditions? My kids have dry lips even in Singapore and they are using normal lip balm.

Just came back from skiing with my children. Bough 3 types of lip balm and found that Vaseline Advance Therapy works the best for my children. It comes in a mini toothpaste form. I applied before and after ski.

    • RE: Ds is good at nothing

I used to experience quite a similar situation to you with my DD when she was much younger... it took me alot of patience and support from the teachers to finally get her into the habit of reading.

I am glad your DS is starting to take interest in books! That is good first step towards stirring his interest for the english language.

*pat on the back for you! 😄

Thanks slmkhoo!! Thank you very much for understanding how I felt. That is truly how I felt at that time. Thanks for all your encouragement to me too!

I am glad to report I am slowly trying to be patient in parenting him. Here are some progress:
      1. He is beginning to read books! Thanks to Ellie Bellie which arouse his interest. Now he can finish 1 book in maybe 2 hours which is big step forward. I have also bought many books for him.

      2. Maths. I know the school term just begins but he is starting to feel interested in Maths. He keep telling me to test him on what is taught in school. Couldn't say more now but it is a good start.

I am really trying to be patient, patient, patient.

Wow xueyan, glad to hear of such good news.

On Reading. DS2 never did like to read and academically he's slower than his big bro. Already have a pseudo library at home but in the past, he didn't like to read from that. I wondered if that could be due to that he felt I had bought those books for Ds1. I started to buy books and tell him this is for YOU - he likes that and will attempt to wade through the books, more so if he was the one to pick the book.

FYI, I got Percy Jackson's Greek Gods and Greek Heroes (2 books) recently and they were a smash hit. Fairly short stories introducing the Greek mythology, it's very readable and I can see why boys would like such books. I think you can find these in the library also.

All the best to you and your child. Hope to hear of more good news from you!

      Ksi,

I didn't even know such list exist in KSP thread !
