      CatMoon:
I don't think MOE really cares about the benefits of \"smaller class sizes\" or \"weaker students\" and all.

I believe the key phrase MOE used is \"critical mass\" - i.e. packing everyone in. They will continue with the 40 students per class.

On another note, I feel sorry for the CCA coaches, trainers, physiotherapists, etc who will lose their jobs.
Yah lor. teachers also. I guess good teachers can do tuition.

Like this teacher, former HCI HOD of mathematics, left sch, started giving tuition. http://www.fa.edu.sg/tutors/mr-lau-hwa-chong-hod-math-tuition/

those not so good teachers, cannot do tuition, then how?

      Jaydazzlerz:
Im keen to enrol my boy in SAP school but they do not offer our MT and as such, can we opt for mandarin despite both me and wife non-mandarin educated? I speak a bit of Mandarin and our boy has been learning Mandarin since Pre-nursery till K2.

It should not be a problem.

As long as you are willing to support your child in the SAP school, it should be fine.

I also stay nearby that area. Can i check with you that for Gan Eng Seng and Alexandra, which primary sch is better?

      Thanks in advance.

Between the two, Alexandra is more popular.

      Hi qms,

      Thank you for the information.

How about compare Alexandra and River Valley Primary school? Which one would be more popular?

      Thank you.

Great thanks for the sharing here.

A quick question on transferring school at end of P3 (moving to the new primary school at the beginning of P4). Besides the performance in the current school, would the new school consider / require the GEP screening result as well (e.g., round 1)? Much appreciated in advance.

Screening results not mandatory but will be a bonus to make your application stand out if it is what the school looks at.

      Hi Jedamum,

Does it mean the school would assess the child's academic performance when it accepts new schools?
MOE says it depends on the school got vacancy or not.

It is a big increase in terms of workload. Students need to cope with more subjects.
      Jia you to your child!!

even though son has finished o levels, it's different with this girl because she is academically slower. so i'm basically starting all over again...plan to hold on for a while since she is still trying to cope.

      How is she coping now?
Do you get her assessment book to do or engage tuition teacher?

    • RE: O-Level Elementary Math

      Hi all,

There is a change in syllabus in O level E math exam starting from last year, with a new type of application question. Heard the question is quite challenging.

How do you help your kids cope with this question?

I am lucky that I am still closed to many of my good friends in school.

For the past 30 over years, I have been keeping touching with them.

    • RE: Is tuition absolutely needed from Sec 1?

      janet88:
      precioustime96:

I believe tuition is only necessary when the school teacher fails to do his/her job well. Otherwise, please consult your children on the matter and do not force tuition on them.

for my son who was in a neighbourhood secondary school then, his teachers (except english sec 1-4 & biology in upper sec) taught reasonably well. for daughter in sec 1 this year, she does need help for her english. so her tuition resumed 3 weeks after her psle. other than that, i am fortunate to have son and hubby to help coach her for most of the subjects.

it sounds harsh to say 'school teacher fails to do his/her job well' but it is quite true. if not because of son's biology teacher who is always MIA and fails to deliver her responsibility compared to the other biology teacher who teaches the top class, my son would not have required tuition.

How is the age gap between your son and your daughter?
It is not easy for a sibling to coach a student. you are lucky!!
