I can relate to some of your frustration which happened to the dojang DS1 is in. Sometimes I felt the dojang is taking in kids way too young to practise TKD, and these younger kids tend to disrupt the class by making noise and generally been ill-disciplined. At times, I felt their parents could have use the dojang as some childcare centre. And it's also equally painful to see little kids, probably in kindergarten, holding senior belts ie blue and above who couldn't execute proper kicks and do their poomsae. And yet strangely able to progress up the grades.

Equally, the fees at DS1's dojang doesn't come cheap. At times, I'll sit outside dojang to see and also to feedback. There will always be some instructors whom we stick. And in particular for stand-in instructors who Ive felt their coaching to be sub standard, I would feedback to head coach thereafter (for the records, these are few and far in between). Over times, the dojang also segregate the real young kids so that they could do their poomsae and kyorugi separately. And my kid will join the poom class.

If there's anything I would dislike about DS1 dojang, it would be the fees (really hurts my pocket), need to purchase personal protective gears (for hygiene purpose) and considerable registration fees for competitions (for extra preparation lessons). Otherwise, instructors are friendly and competent (champions in own countries), aircon dojang and conveniently located.
Yes, I really wonder how those younger kids with higher belts passed their grading when they are not taking the sport seriously. The parents whose kids were playing with their saliva in the dojang were commenting how cute their kids are *rolled eyes*. It is really not hygiene and who knows are they sick.

We needed to get our own gears as well which I preferred as well because of hygiene purpose but yes the gears are also very expensive and I can feel my pocket aching *lol*

    • RE: All About Taekwondo

Withdrew my boy from Induk Taekwondo after being with them for a few years. I could say Im not happy with the coaches there overall. Let me name a few points.

      Discipline
      - No discipline in this school AT ALL. Most of the time, some boys could be seen not listening to the coaches and doing their own stuffs and or running around. Some really very young boys were playing with saliva and the coaches just laugh it off.

      Instructors
      - I sent my boy for weekend classes but at times, there are just not enough coaches when I sent my boy to do makeup lessons on weekdays and children just gotta practice by themselves first while the instructor coaches other belts.
      - This particular instructor is always teaching the same moves and wasting time by talking nonsense, the kids do not really learn much after deducting water breaks time. Most of the time, he can be seen not doing anything even when there are so many children for weekend classes.
      - They just expect the children to somehow know their moves/strokes when they move into higher color belts. Very often, they do not help to correct and do not break down the steps to clearly explain and demostrate to the children.

They also give me the impression that they do not like answering questions, eg. I saw them a few occasions giving the irritated expressions after talking to some parents. I agree that some parents may be quite demanding, but afterall their fees do not come cheap.

I initially wanted to send my boy to MPM @ Tampines, so I went there a few times to check in the environment and surroundings. To my disappoinment, I always get to hear teachers screaming away at the students.
