Anyone hears of situation where a child is already selected at p5 for maths and is being tutored in RI 3x a week and is given a place without going through dsa?

Heard 2 cases but both are NUSH. One was selected in p5 yr end (math) and one was selected in P6 yr start (science) if I am not wrong. But I don't know details. Both are TOP talents.

Feel the need to vent here. My DD's school mate from PLMGS who gotten a WL for SOTA kept toking bad abt SOTA to freak my DD and persuaded my DD to reject her CO. Whut?!? @#$%^&*&^%$ I am hanging on to that SOTA CO no matter what. After reading the recents posts in this DSA2017 thread, I cannot help feeling what is wrong with some parents and their kids??!?!?

I think you are right. Spend the time to let your DD know more of the fantastic truth about SOTA. DC are rewarded CO(s) because the school(s) need them. Value the offer(s) and select the school that will suit DC the best. No hush no rush. Submit the form with a responsible final decision and not regret it which is what the schools need from us too. WL will then play the role.

Hey guys, this is a stressful time for everyone as our children's futures are being mapped out as we speak. As parents, we naturally want to fight for their best interests.

Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and there is no definitive right or wrong. We are thinking adults after all; naturally we all have our own points of view.

So let's be gracious and agree to disagree. After all, this is a forum where parents try to help one another. And I for one am grateful to the many people who so generously share information and advice.
:hugs:
:salute: well said.

Smiling,

I think Francoise & Esteème have given us very good examples of how we as parents should teach our children to be more considerate towards one another. Although we do not know each other but this forum really help us to gather many useful informations and in this case, it really make sense that parents sit down and discuss with your child and decide which CO to accept and which CO to reject asap so that the others under WL will have a better chance to be converted to CO soonest. Imagine if your child is the one waiting anxiously, you will be happy to know that one precious chance is given back to you if they choose to reject it early.

This is also a good time to show our children not to be selfish and hold on to many CO and only to reject it at the last minute giving others no chance to convert.

JMHO
Hi Joyymum,
I do not understand, why parents who want to take reasonable time to make the decision is selfish. If the decision is so easy to make, why MOE gives us 2 months time to submit the form.
Many of us like me and my DS are still waiting for the results. Some school's principle brief are scheduled in Oct, how to make decision without listening principle's brief?
It is selfish only if the parents committed their DC's attendance to the school and then turned that school down. Do not confuse.
Regarding RI sports domain CO. School is very responsible that they called the parents to make sure they will take the offer before they send them CO letter. There's at least one parent rejected. So the CO is given to another student.

Unfortunately I have also heard of cases where parents said yes yes on the phone but ended up going to another school after receiving the CO letter. Nothing is concrete until you submit the option form. I feel for the schools and those on WL.

So for this, DS and us have decided to make a decision before 31st Aug so that kids on the WL can get a chance to be confirmed early.

LOVE this! We have personally encountered school reps who have told us that some will say that they will take up the CO, and who changed their mind in the end. Resulting in the school having fewer students in that particular domain than they have space for. (This is coming from the school rep themselves, don't scream at me pls) I think this is counter productive - a child who has talent on strong insterest in that domain could have benefitted from it. JMHO.
It is disappointing that parents couldn't keep their words

Thank you for your thoughtful decision.

It dose not matter if you get 2 or more co or co+WL. Spend reasonable time to compare the schools carefully, select the only one that suits our DC is very important. I don't think there are parents will Dsa to schools they don't like. It's only which one like the best or suits the best.

Hi smiling,

Nothing surprises me in life. There are some applied for schools they hear are good, w/o first regarding child's interests, inclination, etc. Some adopt attitude apply as many & get which to narrow down 'slowly'. Some got COs & take their time. It's not wrong in their perspectives. I'm only concern if we can highlight to parents willing to be considerate by working it out early & release the extra places sooner than later.

I'm only sharing coz I read so many of you anxiously waiting....

No offence please. Your opinion is positive and kind. Thank you.
I just want to give my point of view that first we are not able to tell those \"slowly\" narrow down COs are selfish or they want to make a prudent
decision. We can't moral kidnapping them.
I read through 2016 DSa post on ksp, when some WL and co results are out parents discussed this topic too. It was not in the end a very happy discussion because non party can convince the other.
Just be kind to everybody.
If COs decide to give up a CO, they can choose to post here or contact school, they can choose to keep to themselves too. If COs like to take more time to make the decision, we need to give them the space because they have their rights.

No offence please. Peace peace peace.

Btw, HCI principal DSA brief is on 28 Oct. Many HCi COs may look forward to this too.

The convert of WL to co will only be announced after psle I thought? That’s why some school can ask their WL students to put the school as their 1st choice to have higher chance to be converted?
