RE: Busy Bee Learning Centre - Discussion
My boy has been attending compo classes at bb for past 3 years. The materials are pitched at a higher level. I.e if your child is in p4, the materials are about p5 higher mt standard. However, the weekly spellings and compos seem to work for my boy. He can remember the various good phrases taught in the class.

RE: Busy Bee Learning Centre - Discussion
My boy attends Busy Bees Compo class and he likes it! I find the standard a bit high (i.e. he’s in P2, but the words are P3 standard). However, it acts as a supplement to what he’s learning in school. They also cover oral which I find very useful. I showed my boy some oral pictures and he’s able to describe quite well.

RE: All About Full-Time Maids
I think the booklet is given to the maids when they first arrive in Singapore. My maid can draw very well too. She uses my A4 printing paper to draw and colour during the sch hols, claiming my boy asks her to. But I didn’t see her giving the pictures to him!! Forgot to add 1 more point, she got the cheek to change her mind and asked me to let her stay and go for interviews until she found another employer!! I said no! I also found out that she has been circling agencies’ numbers (in the newspapers) that help maids to find jobs overseas, such as Taiwan and HK!! She has no hear to work for me at all!!! Then why stay? Actually, I pitied her when she came to me (she was a transfer maid, chg 3 employers but loan still not paid up yet!!). I “helped” her pay off her 6-mth loan before deciding to terminate her services…actually wanted to do so when she was with us for 3 months. After her loan was paid up, she started to show her true colours.

RE: All About Full-Time Maids
YES!! I agreed with what you have all said!!! Just sent my maid back abt 2 weeks ago. Can’t stand her. Always moody face. She actually didn’t answer me when I called her a few times!! So mad that I told her to pack and go back to the agent. Guess what? Her tears flowed straightaway and said she wanted to return home, got home problems! Bought her an air-ticket the next day. She left her diary( booklet given by MOM) behind. I got my colleague to interpret. She got the cheek to say that she doesn’t like my kid!! When I interviewed her, she said she likes kids!!! She even said she wants to change employer but doesn’t wat to pay the transfer fee, so waiting for us to speak up first!!! Maybe that’s why she purposely gave us “face” and didn’t want to answer me!! We played right into her hands!! I was fuming mad!! So no matter how “hard” life is now, I swear not to have another maid!!! Just that my kid suffers everyday, from travelling here and there. My poor boy still says he misses her. I told him she doesn’t like him at all, forget about her!

RE: St Andrew's Junior
Questions:
1) His classmates who were doing very well in p1 transferred to other schools. Concerned that only those who are not doing well are left in Ceddar. Thinking of transferring him to SAJS, what do you all think?
I would say SAJS is not bad except that they’re not strong in Chinese. Eng speaking environment…they’re trying to work on this area esp this year since there’s a change in Principal…
2) There are some mention of bullies in the SAJS and SASS. My boy is quite skinny and concerned that he will be bullied in the school. Are there many bullies there?
I don’t think so. My boy didn’t mention anything on this…he seems to be enjoying himself in school.
3) Quite puzzled about the previous mention that the school bus from potong pasir to the school costs $90+ and the child has to take the bus at 6.10am? Any other parents confirm this?
Mine is quite cheap. 1 way to wan tho ave is $45.
4) As it is a mission school, does the school share about bible stories, Christian values and sing worship songs during the assembly or in class?
Yes! They have assembly every wed and fri. They impart Christian values, sing worship songs etc…
5) If we really want to transfer him to SAJS, what do we need to do for the transfer as well as to increase the likelihood of being accepted? Meet the principal?
Hmm…guess you better call the sch up and arrange a meeting with the P. Think this is the fastest way to get your answers…
Would appreciate your inputs. Thanks!

-
RE: St Andrew's Junior
Yup, you are not eligible under any of the phases if you’re frm SASS &/ SAJC. It helps if you’re a member of their affliated church…but I don’t know which phase it is then…

RE: School Teachers Working as Tutors
We are quite similar !!! My \"study time\" with my boy is from 730-9pm daily! My tutor is from a neighbourhood school. I scream at my boy because he makes the same silly mistakes over and over again.... :x If I don't exert pressure on him, he doesn't bother to register it in his head! If your tutor is good, do recommend to me! I am actually looking for someone to coach my kid in eng, esp compo writing/creative writing & comprehension.

RE: School Teachers Working as Tutors
My teacher friend told me she charges $50/hr for primary sch…As for secondary level, I guess it is even higher?? She also mentioned that the lowest she goes is $45/hr. However, the tutor I engaged currently charges $40/hr. He’s a teacher but I find his teaching so-so. I agree totally with what you gals/guys mentioned, the parent plays the most impt role. I personally feel my kid learns more under my daily coaching!!! I am a FTWM and I do feel drained everyday but I force myself to cover his sch work daily…stress and tired. End up screaming every night…

RE: St Andrew's Junior
Quite a number were selected for the first round of GEP. But I heard that only a handful made it through after the first round…
