NCPS always hot pick under phase 2c ,

News just boardcasted 3 fighting for 1 (SC within 1km)

      Some happy some sad

Some say it's unfair that I stay less than 200m away and yet have to choose a skool that out of 1km under phase 2cs

At least effective this year, there is SCs admit first policy . MOE cant please everyone! parents should look for good things in the outcome after failed at P2C. There is always other schools near home and every school is governed by MOE. Instead of spending time thinking of fair or not fair, lets spend the time helping our kids to start their new life at school.

      phtthp:
one reason this year Tanjong Katong is hot could be due to spillover efffect from Kong Hwa. ie. their initial target was KH, but last minute realize that many seats had been taken up and balloting seems inevitable, so start to divert attention towards TKPS (if their child is a boy)...

I chose KH at P2B because this was the only school I qualified during that phrase via being clan members for past 10 years and I lived within 1KM from KH. If I was successful at P2B, then I don't have bother with the registration anymore. Unfortunately, it didn't turn as planned so I had to waste time again going through P2C. My aim at Phrase P2C is to secure a placed at School near my home on very day of application and not to wait for another week for the ballot results and also the need to mentally prepared for possibility of going through registration at P2CS. To me this absolutely waste of time. Hence, KH is definitely fall out of my choice at P2C. Within 1km, there is two other good schools which would I almost confirm to secure a place at P2C i.e. TKPS or GMPS. I finally decided to go for TKPS for the following reasons:
      1. Positive Feedback from parents who kids currently enrolled in TKPS.
      2. Positive Feedback from K-garden teachers where my kid studies
      3. I loves its location at Katong
      4. TKPS has quite number of PRs. These PRs mostly comes well educated background which I believe they would also motivate their kids to do well in school.
      5. TKPS has produced a quite number of good students at 2011 PSLE.

I totally concur with ChiefKiasu’s advice below:

      Quoted

Our advice to parents is that if we really have a second choice school that we are sure to get a place in Phase 2C, just go for it in Phase 2C. Resist the temptation of trying to get that elusive vacancy in one of the incredibly popular schools. In the best case, we will be feeling like we have won Toto, which, of course, feels great. But in most cases, we don't always win Toto, and we may end up with neither our 1st nor 2nd choice schools.

      Unquoted

When I lodged my application at TKPS on 1st August 2012, TKPS staff told me that the chances is very high since we are SCs and within 1km and told us that that orientation date is somewhere in Nov and asked me to bring along my son to meet with his teachers and classmates!!

Our whole family went for a good celebration at night and look forward to bring my kid for a tour at his new school in November this year! Many Thanks to Chiefkaisu for the above advice!!

      LNHQ:
Hi, parents who are considering to put your kids in Tkps...let me share some insights of the school too.hope it helps..

My child is currently in P1 too.. he is enjoying a lot in school.. kids who excel well will usually have leadership roles during class. Eg, English group leader or Maths group leader.. they have monthly or termly (can't remember) Star pupil also..

School's motto on leadership and character building are being practice in school which is good...every tue during assembly time.. pupils get the chance to perform after teacher's approval..so I find that it is a good exposure for the pupils.. they had okto group to perform not long ago too...and various performance from outside..

School also has Speech & Drama as well as computer lesson as of P1..

Every school will have some misbehaving pupils so Tkps is the same.. but so far lower pri is still manageable for the teachers, as far as I can see.

The kids in this school has no peer pressure from each other.. and they are happier comparing to certain school..

Overall I'm quite happy about this school..

It will be quite disappointing for a parent if the child need to be drag to school everyday:-( so all parents choosing school, please choose wisely ..choose accordingly to our child's character then what school YOU want your child to be in..distance is really important too.. no point sending a child to a far away famous school and everyday got to wake up so early (for morning session school).. the poor child is going to be so tired.. after that comes P3 where cca comes in thats another transportation headache..

I had a hard time deciding what school to choose last yr so I can understand all parents feeling now..

Hope I had help any parents in any way 🙂 Good luck
Thanks so much for sharing your personal experiences! I enrolled my kid at TKPS today!

      snaw:
Just wondering if anyone can help clarify a question I have:

I'm PR (Sorry), have applied for a school for my daughter where we're over 2KM but in the past there were always places at phase 2c, however this year it's looking very likely it will go to ballot and I'm now thinking I'd like to withdraw my app and try another local school we also like, is it possible before registration has closed or do we have to wait till 2CS now?

      Thanks.
Please don't be sorry being PR! Singapore is an open society. Just there is need for government to distinguish the benefit btw SC/PR. It's our government's issues for failure to look into such matter much earlier. The recent election had finally woke them up that Singapore is still afterall a democratic society and SCs is capable to voice their disapproval of government policy through each individual votes!!

I think you can withdraw any time before closing date and re-register at another school... Good Luck & Welcome to Singapore and hope one day you might make Singapore your home!

Looking at past year statistics, I think you can try Kong Hwa again in 2C as there are seats in 2CS for haig girls (if i have read correctly).

I read the strategies-phase 2c provided in this website after I failed at KH P2B. http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/strategies-phase-2c

I really thanks the author for his valuable input and decided not to stress myself further and choose Geylang M which is a sure win option at P2C. I also lived within 1 km of Geylang M, it is almost certain for my kid to make it to this school.

I considered myself fortunate to be able to give KH a shot at P2B cause I dont qualify for P2B at any other school near me and also at P2B I can still take the risk to compete for KH i.e. nothing to lose !!. I am of the opinion that it times to get serious at P2C and go for sure win option to avoid another registeration game for P2CS.

Frankly, I was not overly disappointed cause deep inside my heart I would still prefer my kid to grow up in multi-racial school environment instead of a chinese majority school. My kid is currently attending K education with mostly foreign kids. I am extremely pleased with his development and the multi-racial exposure he is getting at such early stage of his life.

      Monday123:
hi, need advise on my case.

i have 2 sons, born in year 2007 and 2009.

in year 2014, my older son (born in year of 2007) will be attending primary 1.

we are thinking of registration him into AI TONG Pri.

Right now, we have the member application form which is already signed off by 2 members.

Just by being a member, can we apply him on a earlier phase?

we are staying more than 2km away from sch.

      please advise.
Your chance of securing a place at Ai tong for P2B & P2C Phases would be very very slim if living more than 2km away from Ai Tong.

      Hope this help!

Any latest update on kong hwa balloting for P2B?

My friend who lives within 1 km registered yesterday. Accordingly to him, out of the 11 applicants, one of them confirmed lives outside 2 km. Based my friend's feedback, there is now at least 56 SC within 1 km and 14 outside 1km. If the remaining 9 applicants on day 2 are all SC and within 1km, then balloting number would be 65 for 40 places. i.e. 61.54% chance of success rate! Good Luck!

FYI, i did voluntary work and join for 2 years but last year they didn't give me the letter. Because I'm staying 1.5m away and they don't want to do balloting for 1-2m. Their enrolment for within 1m is just enough to fill the place available. It's really heng suay...

If you refer to question 8 of the attached document where it clarifies that

      Quoted
No. Distance from the school is only considered during the balloting process and not during SHHK recommendation process.
      Unquoted

      http://www.shhk.com.sg/PDF/phase%202B_2009.pdf

I used to have reservation on this too. Based on my personal experience, I am now convinced that Distance is indeed not being taken into consideration at SHHK recommendation stage.

      BigDevil:
@luzman: your profile shows you have a 2008 child?

So your year of registration is 2014?

Even if you join SHHK now, you will be a member for less than 2 years by the time you are registering your child for P1. Don't think you will be able to get yourself a recommendation for phase 2B.

I would agree to the above comments if you are looking at AT, NC, or TN. You might still have chance for CF or KW. Please read the earlier pages to find out more on this issues.
