From taobao also can ship to a ‘delivery company’(dunno what they call it in English…) then can get the company to ship over for a fee depending on weight… another alternative solution i guess…

RE: Transferring school at sec 1 ( next year sec 2)

In O level, it's around less than 90 people, there are around 180 in total... Affilated certainly stands the majority....serafinang:
May i know how to transfer at sec 1? I was posted to SNGS ip track and i totally hate it. I appealed for both cedar and rgs but both rejected me. Is there any way for me to transfer to either? I looked up rgs website and i tink the only time to transfer is for sec 2's... cedar didnt provide much useful information. Pls help me... i rly rly rly cant stand sngs
yesterday only beginning Day 1, of your Secondary school journey.
It takes a period of time to warm up, coming from a primary school environment, stepping into a Secondary school environment. eg: say, coming from a co-ed primary school environment, into an \"All-Girls\" Secondary school environment. A lot of students are feeling the same way as you : trying to adjust to the new faces of school Teachers, of new classmates, new school mates, to new CCAs, to new school school compound facilities, to new subjects (suddenly from 4, jump to a lot more now) etc.
Adjustment needs time. All of us need time to adjust, to a new environment. So, do give yourself some time.
for IP programme -
Teachers will gradually explain & guide the Sec 1 students, what are the goals & objective(s) target, for each Term, each subject. Your school leaders will brief you, after you've settled down in the initial first two weeks, or so.
CHIJ St Nicholas is a good school.
The Secondary Teachers are warm & assuring. They are always there to help you, should you need help anytime.
at every level, there is a Year head. If you encounter any problem, can talk to her, heart to heart. She is approachable, kind, can advise you whenever you need help, be it in academic studies, or in other matter of concern. She will be able to counsel you.
Not all Secondary 1 pupils who entered St Nick, come from the affliated primary school. There are a great number of students from outside schools who had joined too, in IP as well as in O level. Just like you, they are also trying to adjust. Take your time to get to know new friends, bond new friendship, no need to rush. Some of them can be shy, so you may take the initiative to get to know them first, like join them for recess. You may ask them politely, \"Hi, i would like to join you for recess. Is it ok ?\" Being a new bird in a new environment, they are also trying to adjust.
usually, it takes at least minimum One to Two Term, to adjust.
depend on how fast, one adapt. Sometimes, some students even take up to one whole year, to adjust.
At the end of Term 3, in IP : if your gut-feel tells you that O level is more suitable than IP track after all for your case, sit down and discuss with your parents, first, writing down reasons why you think O level is more suitable than IP, having tried out IP programme for 3 Term. After that, together, fix an appointment to see Mrs Fiona Tan (the new Principal, who had joined St Nick this year 2017), request to switch over to O level track, giving supporting reason(s).
Remember -
wherever you are, whichever Secondary school you goto (be it Cedar or St Nick or any other school), if you are a star, you will continue to shine brightly, anywhere. People (your Tr, your fellow classmates) around you : can observe your behavior in class, in school, your learning attitude, your mannerism in the way you handle things, situation, etc. The way you talk, the way you conduct yourself, in respect.
So, please remove all negative thoughts from your mind. Negative thoughts will drain off your energy, make you miserable. You have done exceedingly well, in your primary school. Do Keep Up your good work, into Secondary !
Dont give up IP programme, just after spending only your initial first day, at a new school.
your primary school journey is over ! MOE had posted you into St Nick. Embark your Secondary school journey with Faith, & with confidence. Is a new year. Do not dwell on the past (dont dwell onto why your appeal into RGS didn't work, it won't help you. Please get rid of that mentality, in your mind : \"I only want RGS, nothing else.\" Because a few of my friends' daughters from RGPS, think like that)
CHIJ St Nick is a school, set up by the nuns. You can learn many virtue, in this school, like :
simplicity, humility, graciousness, Integrity, Peserverance, Justice, Faith, Hope, etc.
Turn to your 2017 Sec school Diary, read up what are the core moral values, every St Nick student expected, to uphold.
Behold, the past is gone, the new has come
However, I have to agree, do not dwell on it. I've a friend who did not get into SNGS(we both appealed, only I got in...) She stopped dwelling on the matter and now immensely loves her school. -

SNGS has O level track. However everything for orientation is the same.serafinang:

don't mind me asking...was it you or your parents who put SNGS IP as one of the choices?
it's only day 1 of school. why be so negative? if it's really intolerable after 6 months, why not discuss with your parents and check if SNGS has o level track? -
RE: Northern Europe

Tks for the info! After few years of chasing the lights, we stopped this year and did roadtrip to Balkans instead . But you know the lights are pretty addictive so we may be back to the chase soon.... especially with other activities like this ice-breaking cruise, it definately makes it all the more appealing.
Balkans is really beautifulScaredyMum:
Nice photos, Scaredymum! The icebreaker cruise looks interesting! Which port did the cruise depart from?
Hi elenang
The cruise departure terminal is at Axelsvik in Swedish Lapland.
It is operated by a new company, not the popular Sampo Icebreaker.
Below is the link.

But of course, I'm not gonna go crazy on the topic since this isn't the right forum... But I'd like to say it's very much worth a visit!

RE: All About Luggage
jessie_t82:
Actually, I like Traveler's Choice much better than Samsonite, in my opinion at least. Samsonite feels 'meh, the usual thing' while the I was really impressed by how smooth the luggage by Traveler's Choice was (the luggage was redeemed from Maybank during Travel Revolution so I'm not super confident about the name but it seems to be the 'Traveler's Choice Silverwood 30-inch Polycarbonate Hardside Spinner Upright Suitcase'). Of course, it may be just a psychology thing, perhaps cause how sleeked it looked.I only purchase Samsonite and Rimowa.
The rest are are just nothing compared to those two.
What about the fabric type though? I personally find the fabric type much more lasting... -
RE: 2016 PSLE Results & Secondary Posting Discussions
janet88:
Errr actually I was just joking, if she throw everything back to her primary school, then she will have more space for Secondary Syllables...
no tuition for other subjects, only for english.StillThinking:
But then again, that means more space for Secondary Syllables
as usual, i will help her for history...math, science, geography & art would be for hubby. -

But then again, that means more space for Secondary Syllables :evil:MrsKiasu:
My dd admitted she has been lazy during sch hol. She says she cant wait for school reopen and life gets busy again.
when school reopens, i will have more ME time and even stretches till 2+ or even 4pm on days with CCA.
holidays are good, but too much of it will cause the bodies and brains to go cold and become lethargic.
fortunately daughter still has tuition once a week, or else everything would be returned to her primary school when sec 1 begins. -
RE: fr p4 to p5 .. results dropped
p0o9i8:
'Avg' pri school is not... not too relevant. The major question is which class he is in, since all schools produce high scorers every single year(you can check the highest for each school...). A student who get 75 for all of his/her subject will estimately get 225, depending on cohort performance. However, do not forget that 200 is actually the average in the whole cohort. So even 225 is above average.HI, my boy is in an avg pri school, avg class, he scored 74.5 overall for his finals.
Chinese 65.5
Maths 73
Eng 84.5
Sci 80
WIth these results he is placed 34/41, this led me to think either the paper is too easy or everyone in class are 75 percentile and above. I am worried with such results, he may struggle with PSLE and go to normal stream.
Thing is, in my era, bottom percentile meant avg scores of 50s to 60s.. nowadays 75 percentil wiill still get you bottom ranks

RE: fr p4 to p5 .. results dropped
janet88:
Well I think it's just me being odd but I did better in p5 than p4 for math. Well, but then my science dropped like close to 20 marks :siam:
P4 to p5 is a big gap as there is subject difficulty. Math and science would be more difficult as syllabus is different from lower/mid primary...teachers also mark stricter to give the kids a feel of PSLE standard. If schools set tough papers, kids will find themselves struggling during p5. For p5, on top of having to face upper block science, the students are also tested lower block as well.shinpai:
Generally, what is considered a good score in P4 and P5? I assume P5 and P6 should be about the same, should not have drastic change.
My DD is only P4 and her results dropped a lot in SA1 too. The drop in P4 is almost unheard of so I am also very worried.
I didn't feel too much of a struggle, but I did have a drop in marks(but it didn't seem to extreme so I was fine with it.) For Science, I felt the formatting of answers was a lot more emphasised than in p3-4. A lot of it was rather wasted since I knew the concepts, but well, could not apply. For those with a huge drop in Science may wanna look in this area.
Surprisingly, my Chinese(and Higher Chinese, which I was surprised I could take. My Chinese was always a high B, that is, before p4 EOY) went from a high B/bare A to a rather high A.
Just my personal case, I know some of my friends had different cases.
My personal conclusion is that (since the marks for each grade have also dropped), as long as it's in the same grade it should be fine. -
RE: fr p4 to p5 .. results dropped
Erm, the marks for each grade will change in p5, the same grade should be where one is suppose to be, lower is definitely a drop.
