    • RE: DSA 2011

      ks2011:
My daughter scores about 90 in English ( P5 and P6 CA1). She was 1st in the level in P5 and participated in the inter-school debate but her team did not win. She won a silver in maths olympiad. Her maths results in school is around 96. Should she apply for RGS DSA or just focus on PSLE? She wants to apply through english DSA. Can anyone advise me on whether she stands a chance.

No harm trying. In my opinion, top students should apply DSA to their dream school only. If can't get in through DSA, then focus on PSLE result.

If your dd is planning to only apply for one DSA, then give it a try. She'll have to sit for GAT, a test for her academic domain, and finally an interview, if she makes it through each round. It won't take up that much time if it's just one school she's trying out for. Having said that, my friend's dd was top in her school all through primary school, on the school debate team, applied through English, but didn't get in through DSA.

      wow that's tough 😐

my DS classmate from the debate team applied RGS DSA got offered, in 2010[/quote]Some with no debate or whatever cert. got in through DSA, English domain too!

    • RE: P1 Chinese - General Discussion

      janet_lee88:
Daughter has been selected to attend Chinese remedial. The first thing which came into my head is, 'she's just in P1' 😒 Maybe her teacher has a way to coach them...I get so mad coaching her for ting xie every week. After writing hanyu pinyin for εΆεοΌŒε†™ε—οΌŒδΊŒζœˆ so many times last night, she still couldn't get it...it's really up to my neck.

May be you can give PlayChinese a try. (Don't get me wrong, I am not their promoter.)http://www.playchinese.com/ However, I found it quite an effective way for children to learn writing, HYPY & chengyu.

    • RE: Any recommendation for piano, violin and ballet lesson?

      mumof3kids:
      Hi,

I am a SAHM with 3 kids, my eldest is longing for piano lesson for years, as my hubby's income isn't high, barely abt 2k plus per mth. Thus, I dare not engage my eldest in any enrichment class so far. But, as she is at P1 this year, she has dealing with more friends who are from richer family, where they are able to engage in all sort of lessons that they are fancy with. My eldest begging and begging, I really cant bear to left her alone. But, if I engage her in piano class, then my son(2nd kid) who is asking for violin lesson will also asking for that. I am quite surprise when my boy asking for violin class as his teacher suspect him with autistic, later claimed he migh have ADHD, but after many consultation and therapies, all the therapists and psycologists concluded he is not, but just the behaviors is a bit wierd as he is not good in expressing his feeling. I am thinking he might just ask for fun only..But, day after day, he is asking again and again, he even came out the schedule, he wants the elder sister to learn piano, he himself learn violin, and he wanted the younger sister to learn ballet, as he know the younger sister loves dancing and singing.
Now, I am trying to persuade my hubby to fork out some cash every month, and I might do some online selling, i know these cant be a big amount, so, I need some recommedation here. Anyone knows where to engage kids with these lessons, with resonable fees and near to Hougang?

      Thks in advance.
      :thankyou:
      try cc.
