I have to learn not to micro-manage my son and have some faith that he would quickly adapt to the changes that he may face in ACS(I) be it small or huge.
Mandarin is right. Its best that parents provide the support in time of need, and not try to take over when the going gets tough. Let the boys rough it out.
Probably this is what character-building is all about.
Thanks Mandarin and Chirunner for your valuable insight.

If each class has 30 boys, 6X30, that means at least 180 boys will be taking IB each year (and +girls join in year 5). It means 13/200+ get perfect score ! about 6% get perfect score ! Am I right ?
The total no of intake for IP is about 152 boys based on the Year 1 classlist.
Average about 25 boys in each class.
Lets assume that all remain in the IP programme and eventually sit for the IB exam in Yr 6.
There are 2 more intakes in Year 3(targeted 150 students) and Year 5 (targeted 150 students).
So theoretically, there would be about 450 students sitting for IB exams in Year 6.
The full details is available in ACS(1) website. -

Hi Mandarin,If your son is in IP class, I am afraid the assessment books sold in popular bookstore may not be a perfect fit. They can used as a guide for some subjects like History, geography and Physical Science. I have not found any suitable assessment for Life Science at all. Language Arts is also another subject that you would not be able to find any assessment books.
The exam papers for IP and Express are different as the topics (or depth of topics) and pace of teaching are different.
I was so looking forward to some replies and you came to my rescue.
Yes, my son is in IP.
I used to rely on assessment books and school exam papers when preparing my son for PSLE.
Now, I'm a bit lost on how to guide him in his year 1 test/exams.
Care to share on how your son and yourself handle this issue?
Saw a vendor in Clementi Central selling ACS(1) exam papers but cant't be sure if it is for express or IP students. :? -
RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
I understand that parents are now concerned with the selection of CCA, how hectic is the training schedule and whether their sons are able to find time to do their homework etc.
To add to that list, I understand that the 1st term test for Year 1 has been scheduled between 1st-26th Feb.
Iβm trying to find some assesment books/testpapers for my son.
Is there any difference in exam papers(for common subjects like Maths, geography etc)between IP and Express classes.
Any parent here can shed some light?
thanks. -

Sunbird, did you realise that the CSP lessons start at 3pm and school only ends at 2.45.How does your son plan to go to Clenti Town Sec in 15 mins?
There are a few direct buses to Clementi Town Sec from ACS(I).
the journey would probably take about 10 minutes at most.
I'll ask my son if the timing is too rush after 1st week of lessons
and will propose to the teacher a later starting time (say about 3.15pm)if necessary.
If dismissal time of students from other schools is about the same, this will be a common concern. -

Just wondering like most of you how and when will the boys sign in for their CCA.Did you hand in the green form-additional $4.20 for their sports injury plan.Wonder if you parents are feeling lost! :? So many grey areas! Are there any of you with boys taking chinese as a third language?[/url]
There will be final sports selection this afternoon.
I plan to submit the sports injury insurance application form only after my son's CCA is finalised.
My son is taking CSP( chinese special programme). Is yours too? He'll be going to Clementi Town Sec every tues and Thurs for lessons. -
RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
ACS(I) students (2009 cohort) did very well for the IB exams. 27 students obtained perfect score of 45 worldwide out of which 13 are from ACS(I).
My son said that Dr Ong (Principal) has indicated that he would like to grant a school holiday either on the 11th Jan or 12th Jan 2010.
Letβs wait for the confirmation.
My heartiest congratulations to these students.
they have indeed make ACS(I) proud.
I hope our sons will work just as hard and produce excellent results when their time come.
