Not just social media. Nowadays the kids no longer use facebook and even instagram is considered passe. I scrolled through my boy's class whatsapp group and the explicit stuff they share and say there is beyond comprehension. I could not ban my boy from using that group because school and class announcements are disseminated through that channel. I have since sent a note to the form teacher and she is now moderating the class whatsapp group. Also, on the advice of my wife, i have taken away his mobile data privileges and he can now only use wifi.

Actually, the answer starting clockwise from the top is 6, 1, 8 and 9. According to where this question actually came from, the answers have to be numbers between 1 and 9. Otherwise, there can be any number of permutations. :siam:

Oh. But the question did not specify that the numbers have to between 1 and 9. It just asked the students to fill in the missing numbers. Perhaps there is another variant floating around? The mystery deepens!

I'm a Singapore PR, and have been living here for many years. My daughter doing braces now. We did some homework and found Dr Eugene Wee online. Quite happy with him. He's always very cheerful, and he sees a lot of expats. We saw patients from Indonesia and China when we we saw him for tightening last month.
We avoid Saturdays, as he is quite packed then. Weekdays my daughter takes the train there.

You can actually get quality braces done in Singapore itself for a reasonable price of only $2200! The only catch is that the braces will be fitted by post-grad orthodontists under supervision of their dental professors. And you will have to go all the way to NUS to see the orthodontists. I think it may have its uses for some kids who genuinely need more stimulation to help them focus. It sound counter-intuitive, but some ADHD kids and others with certain special needs do need more stimulation, either to \"drown out\" other distractions or because they need more stimulation. For the latter group, if they don't have enough stimulation, they will make their own, eg. moving their bodies, tilting chairs, fidgeting with other stuff, which could be even more distracting for themselves and others. I am wondering whether my daughter would benefit from one, but she is more inattentive than hyperactive, so I'm not sure. I may get a cheap one and let her try.


But non-SN kids who play with these are just playing! The problem is how a school can apply a rule which allows those SN kids who actually benefit from it to use it, and bar non-SN kids who just want another toy. And the prices of the \"good\" ones are ridiculous, I feel.

Yes! I agree that the most of the kids are just buying them to play and also keep up with peer pressure. My boy did mention that his school teacher will confiscate the fidget spinner if the students are found playing with them during lesson time. Not sure what is MOE's stand on this matter, but I did hear about some schools banning the toy outright with no exceptions even for students with ADHD.

I personally feel that teenages are taking this fad a little too far. My boy keeps pestering us for money to buy the latest fidget toy with better bearings or one in a different colour! How it even helps with their concentration or focus is beyond my comprehension. Also why are they so expensive? My boy keeps harping on this metal version that costs more than a hundred dollars!?

FIRST KID
First one hated Maths. I strategised, working with her self-limitation, stretch her in areas I can, sent her for programmes that will help her in that area that I am stretching. She went from 60% to 80% & above, eventually A in PSLE Maths. Today, at Sec 3, she is self-motivated and doing well in E-Maths & A-Maths, so she can focus on all other subjects.

SECOND KID
Second one loves Maths. Understands concepts. But language makes him stumble, which means the all-important Paper 2. I sent him for the same programme, but asked that the focus be in training him to break info up to extract details (instead of seeing the whole chunk of text and having his mind shit down on the question). ... Within less than 10 weeks, there was results. And the results were sustainable. 92% and above. Never came down since. He is now in Sec 1 and still doing well in Maths. With confidence too!

THIRD KID
Third one loves Maths. Usually scores 80-100%. But due to weakness in Chinese, I need him to secure 90% & above for all his other 3 subjects. I am giving him the same training, though teaching him myself as he is already strong in Maths.

FOURTH KID
Fourth child seems good in Maths too. 80-100% also. I will eventually have her train in the same technique.

MY FRIENDS & THEIR KIDS
Having gone through all these personally, I am teaching my friends how to use the method too. They have given me feedback that the method is so good that their kids understand it well and love the method. Some have even gone on to sign their kids up for that centre's classes. Some for their regular classes; others for their holiday workshops.

When I teach my friends, I usually show them 2-3 methods so they can see for themselves how efficient Unit Transfer Method is. It is not the solve-all solution, but it solves majority of questions to achieve A-A*.

MATHS HEURISTICS'S UNIT TRANSFER METHOD
This technique I am referring to is Maths Heuristics' Unit Transfer Method. (Although I am stretching my third child by having him learn all of the centre's methods; not just UTM alone).

Oh yes. My boy also learnt the \"Unitary Method\" from his math classes at Nicklebee tutors taught by Teacher Zhou. I agree it is very efficient, logical and such a cinch to understand! The students use units and parts instead of drawing models. I have heard that this is the same method taught in top schools for Pri 5 and Pri 6 math.
