Anyway, we should not be too bias and harsh on students who get in through DSA , lots of those got ind through DSA perform and cope well in their secondary school.

No one really look into and discuss whether those get in through psle score can cope well or not.

The demands on DSA students can be expected are top performance in their talent domains+ to bridge the expected academic gap (school with high academic expectation and DSA student likely to have results that do not meet the S1 COP) .

I don’t think having many talents will translate to academic strength too.

I remember in one previous post that someone mentioned a girl with better portfolio in VA was not shortlisted as her AL score was more than 10. Based on that, I believe those shortlisted , should have results around AL6 and below.

Btw, what is the commitment for DSA academic domains? Math means to join math Olympiad, language to join writing / debates competition?

No interviews? Because the applicants’ P5/6 AL scores already meet the school’s S1 intake COP? Or school are not considering whether applicants will fit the demands that DSA may bring to the students?

I think the shortlisted candidates for RGS selection tests are very stringent.
Most if not all candidates that went for selections tests for all academics domains should have all ten rows filled up suggesting these girls can easily cope with heavy schedules and perform well. :nailbite:

Sorry for my insensitivity and ignorance. For children with AL4-6, wouldn't it better to use psle score instead of DSA? They might be able to enter a \"better\" school with psle result? Actually they can choose any school with that result

DSA is truly a valuable experience for kids and parents even though it does take away lots of their times. It helps my dd to identify her strengths and weaknesses. When compiling the list, we salute what she has achieved during her primary school years, the resilience and hard work. The selection tests and camp also fortify her belief and love in the subjects. More important , the priceless interviews chances. DD enjoys it all and it takes some of her mind off psle preparation. Whether she gets any CO or not, she learn a lot during the whole dsa process.

Your son is very brilliant 🤩. Given that NUSH has selection test for all applicants, he stand very good chance to go to second round.


Not sure about RI though, I believe they select based on applicants portfolio. My questions is how do RI select students for interview? If a student only join school organised math Olympiad and get platinum award, while another join lots of math Olympiad competition and get lots gold awards. How RI will choose?

I do been wondering if \"less than Gold/Platinum/top\" in NMOS, SMOPS, and RIPMWC stands any chance for DSA Math into RI/HCI. There's probably higher chance for NUSH due to their 100% DSA policy with cohort size of ~180 students. So your \"prima facie\" reply nailed it.

I guess I'll go for full transparency here as we need as much advice as we can get, and we do not have any friends who'd been in this similar DSA Math journey. We do have friends who gotten into NUSH but via SIE (after PSLE), and into RI via Sec 1 posting. But we're not confident with PSLE either due to mother tongue & English.
