Anyway, we should not be too bias and harsh on students who get in through DSA , lots of those got ind through DSA perform and cope well in their secondary school.

No one really look into and discuss whether those get in through psle score can cope well or not.

Intention is to care for the DSA student. Not doubting them: discussed what can be expected from them and parent can prepared them for it.

PSLE students has no additional considerations that DSA students have: expected high talent domain performance + academic gap to bridge for some. PSLE students have no academic issue because they meet the COP and no talent domain to live up to.

Every year, DSA exercises will be repeated and others will face these decisions.

Maybe parents with DSAed child can share the actual experiences of their child in the secondary schools. Maybe it is not that a tricky situations after all? I suppose best to hear it from the ground

I would think that RGS would have no lack of applications from top students who would be able to cope well, DSA or otherwise. Hence there would be no need for interviews where the students would probably have "perfect" answers anyway.

My child is currently Yr 4 IP school. From what I observed, whether a student get in through DSA or through PSLE has very little implication on how well the student performs in secondary school. How well a child performs in secondary school depends very much on his or her attitude; one needs to be an independent learner, good at time management, willing to work hard, and not to be discouraged easily by setbacks. A student's PSLE score is not necessarily a good indicator of the child's performance in secondary school. My advice is to put psle score aside and do a fresh start in secondary school.

In addition, the students are generally very busy in secondary schools. They have a lot of activities. Even normal cca (not DSA) will take up 2 to 3 days. There are a lot of other things that will require them to stay back, put in time etc. So the main difference between DSA kid and non DSA kid is non DSA kid has the flexibility to scale back such extra curricular activities while DSA kid has less flexibility. Still, most schools are supportive of their students. They will try to work something out with the students if the student really struggles too badly. At the end of the day, I do feel that if there is the will, there is a way to do it.

Does it mean CO will be given without interviews? Any parents can share their DD experience for those who successfully DSA-ed into RGS via academic domain? TIA

My DD successfully DSA to RGS via EL last year so I can confirm that there’s no interview questions asked , other than the analysis of the literary text .

Commitment of EL DSA kids is not significant . Some of those that I can remember are :
1) student just need to attend cca trial for a EL related cca (ie drama or debate). Need not necessarily select either of these 2 in the final CCA selection
2) take part in some EL related competitions eg Queen’s Commonwealth competition
3) attend some workshop organised by the school (frequency is like 1-2 1hr workshop in a term)

As for RI , EL DSA students totally has no commitments . Although they’re invited to join the EL talent programme Marco Polo held after school every thurs (but still need to go thru the selection trial though), this programme is not compulsory .

I think the shortlisted candidates for RGS selection tests are very stringent.
Most if not all candidates that went for selections tests for all academics domains should have all ten rows filled up suggesting these girls can easily cope with heavy schedules and perform well. :nailbite:

may we clarify :-

are \"all these Ten rows filled up\" by short-listed candidates meant taking RGS English one domain selection test only,

Or

are \"all these Ten rows filled up\" by short-listed candidates come from ALL the different Academic domain, including those taking (Maths + Science + English) selection tests, respectively ?

And

One row : roughly, seated how many short-listed candidates?

I think Susanna is referring to the DSA application form.

I think maybe what susanna0_0 means by “ten rows filled up” is the ten rows of non MOE activities and achievements that is on DSA submission form (if treat like English Compre paper…inference questions 😅)
