I feel that Pei Chun has been making efforts to improve on communication with parents. Level briefing, PN and newsletter on exam matters shares vital info in advance. Many other schools my friends’ kids go to don’t give such detail info regarding exams until a later date.


Regarding communication between class teachers and parents, as long as teachers inform us of important matters (eg. serious behavioural issues) there is no need to update parents on the day-to-day happenings in class. Where do they find time to prepare lessons if they were to tell parents that they did a quiz or a practice in pairs? I would like the teachers to focus on teaching rather than managing demanding parents.

As there is no formal exams for P1 & P2, I guess the school is not too concerned about positioning. My daughter was P3 last year and after the year end exams we received some form of information on how the cohort did. Like what mystery1432 has mentioned, parents were informed of the minimum scores of 75%, 50% and 25% of each subject of the cohort. Thus, from there we know where our child stand in terms of the overall academic performance for the whole year.


Losing bright pupils to the GEP programs may be one of the reasons for fewer top scorers for PSLE but I think there is much more that the school can do to focus on academic performance for the many more bright students left with the school. PCPS is a good school overall, equipped with good facilities, experienced teachers and interesting programs to provide a holistic education. It is not that they are not doing well now but I sincerely hope that more kids from PCPS will get into better secondary schools. Of course, parental support and home environment play an important role, too.

mummyv has summarised all the benefits of sports classes. To me, instead of having pockets of free time for computer games, my kids are filled up with sports training, why not?


When they move on to secondary sch, CCA is compulsory. All CCA will take up as much time. So, why not take up a sport as CCA, the kids can keep fit. Another benefit - they have no time to hang around in shopping malls…

As for P5 &P6 class allocation, A is the best, followed by B, C, D etc. Many years ago sch put more weightage on languages but found that A & B classes ended up with all girls. Apparently, girls usually do better in languages while boys top the math & science. Since 2 or 3 yrs ago, the sch has used total overall marks of P4 to do the allocation. The exception is the sport class 5H/6H where all school teams other than those qualify for top 2 classes &those doing foundation papers will be in the H class.

I heard the Vball captain this year got 269 for PSLE. A few others in the team did very well too. It’s all about time management…

My DD heard from her VB seniors that highest for PCPS is 274. Her senior gets 269. That’s good balance between sports and studies!

Any news on what is the top score in PCPS and who?

Really hope Pei Chun will do well in PSLE. After all the not so good media attention earlier this yr due to ex-P saga, they deserve some good news.

Many thanks to iluvjr2 for sharing the teacher’s response to the CL compo issue. I’m only reading this today as I’ve been busy recently with my eldest daughter’s "O" Level Chinese paper. She is taking the paper today.


Frankly, I am quite impressed with the CL compo program. I can see the great amount of efforts being put in to create the 作文校本. Each exercise is focus on one expression or action. There are great suggested phrases and vocab yet allowing the kids to put on the imagination hat. When my older kids were in PCPS, they didn’t have this and I find it difficult to coach them on CL compo (I don’t send them to chinese tuition classes). One pic or 4 pics does not matter. It’s better that we take the "bite-size" approach and set the foundation right. It’s rightly pointed out that one pic is in fact more challenging than 4 pics.
Mummies, let’s leave the design of teaching materials and programs to the teaching professionals.

Most schools do not conduct HCL lessons in the afternoons and I was not for an extra afternoon in sch, too. However, do not forget PCPS is a SAP sch and thus need extra time for the program. Lower primary learn di zi gui & has chinese reading periods. P3 onwards they’re exposed to chinese history through stories. I recall that for higher primary, they are taught chinese history in more details and also some chinese literature. Although these are not tested and has nothing to do with PSLE, it’s good experience for the kids (esp if they progress to a SAP sec sch). In fact, my girls in sec sch can appreciate it now. They are teaching their classmates how to remember the order of dynasty - taught by PCPS! They are never confused by the different ‘Qing’ dynasties (all translated to English as ‘Qing’) cos they learnt it in PCPS in chinese. So looking back, the extra afternoons in sch to accommodate the extras, is not too bad an idea afterall…

If your kid is one of the top 3 positions in class or has shown the greatest improvement throughout the year or has the best conduct, he/she will be given a prize for the achievement. Parents of award winners are invited to attend the prize giving ceremony.

Training for first half of the year is very manageable as the coach will be focusing on the sch team participating the zonal and national competitions. For P3 kids, training only stepped up in term 3 when they have an extra training session every Mon afternoon. Hence, training is 3 times a week - twice in the afternoons and once during PE. More physical and skill training from term 3 onwards, can be very tiring.


My girl participated in inter-school Bassaball, a fun telematch-style volleyball game. They are also asked to watch and cheer for the school team during competitions. Almost all inter-school VB competitions are held in Pei Chun since it has one of the best VB courts (better than the ones in Cedar, Nanyang Girls and Hwa Chong) and it’s the south zone Centre of Excellence for Sports.

On the whole, I’m happy that she enjoys the sports and benefiting from the sports class so far. Her teachers are very good, too!

My girl in 3H enjoys every VB training session. Coach is strict but they learn well. She hopes to get into the school team although I think the most important/rewarding thing is that she stays fit through the sports she likes.
