    • RE: Secondary School Literature

For Literature, one main thing is to remember PEEL.

      Point
      Evidence
      Elaborate
      Link

With my simple language skills, I scored 16 to 18 out of 25 for prose passage. So Literature is not difficult to score. Furthermore, it is a less tedious subject compared to Geography and History.

      Never give up :celebrate:

Hi, this is a really informative thread... I would like to ask, do the students study only one book throughout the entire year? Thanks

For elective lit, it's study one book for two years.

Wow, I didn't know PEEL is needed in Literature.
Glad I used it by coincidence.

Hi everyone. About 1 year ago, I posted in this thread. Anyone remember me ?

I took Elective Literature as my combined humanities for 2010 O level. Got B3.

Just to share a small tip. I write my answers in the PEEL format, which is similar to the format used in writing Social Studies essays. Point, Evidence, Elaborate, Link. I find that writing the link down helps to make you focus on the question. Otherwise at times, you might elaborate additional details which aren't related to the question.

:thankyou: Tan19 for sharing such valuable information. Will let my dd know that. πŸ˜‰

Welcome, I hope it helps πŸ˜‰ Although I used simple words, but by elaborating on details, I'm still able to score decently. Try to at least write about 1 1/2 page for each part of the question.

      No worries πŸ˜„

Have you tried speaking with your Lit teacher about your area of weakness??

      What books are you doing??
Nope. In fact, she just give out notes + suggested answers for our written CA1/SA2 etc in point form.

You may have just sat for the paper huh ....

      My apologies sweetie,

A bit tough to provide a definitive answer to your question.

But the length of the answer may not be the main constituent in achieving good grades for Lit.

In short, a pupil who comes up with a 2 page answer without really delving into the real nature of the of the question may not score as well as someone who provided a sound analysis of the question using relevant example(s) from the text.

Listen, the paper is over. Don't think about it anymore. Save your 'brain power' and focus on your other upcoming papers πŸ˜„

      Good Luck.

      Hope this helps :celebrate:
      Thank you πŸ™‚
I did try to relate my answers to the questions, but can't seem to get any higher than 18. Last 3 papers are on Monday ^_^

Since i don't have pure subject, SS+Elit is my only hope...

      Hi Miss XXX πŸ™‚

I'm a student taking elective Literature.
For Literature, will the length of the answers affect grades ? Let's say i occupy around 10 words in a line. For each part of the question, i wrote 3/4 of a page. Will it affect my distinction ?
