I'm a student taking elective Literature.
For Literature, will the length of the answers affect grades ? Let's say i occupy around 10 words in a line. For each part of the question, i wrote 3/4 of a page. Will it affect my distinction ?

You may have just sat for the paper huh ....

My apologies sweetie,

A bit tough to provide a definitive answer to your question.

But the length of the answer may not be the main constituent in achieving good grades for Lit.

In short, a pupil who comes up with a 2 page answer without really delving into the real nature of the of the question may not score as well as someone who provided a sound analysis of the question using relevant example(s) from the text.

Listen, the paper is over. Don't think about it anymore. Save your 'brain power' and focus on your other upcoming papers

I did try to relate my answers to the questions, but can't seem to get any higher than 18. Last 3 papers are on Monday ^_^

Since i don't have pure subject, SS+Elit is my only hope...

Nope. In fact, she just give out notes + suggested answers for our written CA1/SA2 etc in point form.

There are alot of resources online too.
Search for 'Suzanne Choo'. She was my lit teacher in secondary school and she posted alot of Mockingbird notes online. There are also alot of sample questions with answers for you to take a look.

I am a teacher of Senior English and "A Sense of Belonging" is one of my favourite compilations of short stories. Last year, I read ‘The Driving Test’ with my senior class and they were stunned. They wanted to read more by the author and went online to see if they could find further stories by her. 'Naema Disparue" is an all time favourite - it works on so many levels and turns many of our expected stereotypes around - muslim men/women etc.


I love teaching from this and most of the students I have taught have enjoyed what we have done from the book.

oh do you know that crescent girls’ 2009 batch’s o level results for pure literature was 90% distinction?! its so shocking la.

Watched Magaret Chan’s performance of Emily of Emerald Hill last night. Very honoured to see Stella Kon there too. This version, the director’s wanted to express "there us an Emily in everyone of us". We stayed back for the dialogue session by Magaret, Stella, the director & one more lady I did’nt know who was she. Despite at the age of 61, Magaret’s performance was marvelous! (don’t forget this is a monolgue play). As what she said, literature text is different from performing text. This is a simply yet ironical yet a local context literature piece. Many questions started to arise about Emily the character. Me n dd enjoyed the play


There would be a different version of Emily on stage next year March. lpok out for it!

Victoria theatre is going a major internal restoration and tonight emily is having the last performance there.
