This year's paper tests alot of Math concepts. If the child is very strong in Math concepts and able to identify the correct concepts/method quickly, then the child will find it very easy.

Hi both the boys find it easy. U can click on the links to read their comments. However, I also have a girl from St Nich. She has been quite good in Math and most of the time, she can solve higher order thinking questions. Unfortunately, she finds the paper very difficult.

Well, the children have given their best. Stay focus - concentrate on the next two papers..

Please help me on the following maths question:

A fruit seller had a total of 204 red and green apples in the ratio of 9:8. After selling an equal number of each type of apples, the number of red and green apples left was in the ratio of 9:5. How many apples did he sell altogether?

This is a popular question for PSLE. There are many types if before-after questions. For this question you must know that the DIFFERENCE is same because \"AN EQUAL number of each type of apples were sold\"

Before:
Red: 9u
Green: 8u
Total: 17u
17u=204
1u= 12 (This is the difference)

After
Red: 9u
Green=5u
Difference: 9u-5u=4u

Since difference same 4u=12
1u=12/4 = 3

Green apples before: 8u x 12 = 96
Green apples after: 5u x 3 = 15

96-15=81
81 x 2 =162

Agree that no marks will be given for modals but working marks will be given for equations. I have been teaching fr the past ten years and have experience in PSLE marking, so I know. There was a forum letter asking if algebra can be use in exams ... The letter was dated Feb 2007 but I am certain MOE's has not change their stand.
