Student of PSLE 2012:
I hv the book list of the express course. It's similar to the book list

What is the school dismissal time? And which CCAs are benefited in the school?
TIA!!!^^
1.45 or 1.15. 1.30 on Friday. Depends on the time table.
Each CCA helps the school individually, really. Even those so-called \"slack\" CCAs. Every CCA is equally busy either preparing for sports meets, syf, scrabble competitions...
If you're wondering about the points, based on the number of cca points most of us have gathered so far (im in sec1 this year), we have no worries šŸ™‚
Hi,

I've been posted to this school (IP) and would like to ask a few questions.
1. How many days in a week do you guys usually have PE?
2. How many books/files do you guys usually carry around in your school bag?

TIA! šŸ˜„

HELLO. WELCOME TO THE FAMILY.
1) We have one pe lesson per week as a class (1hour), one mass pe session with other classes (half an hour) and morning jog once each week. Sports here is as serious as academics, I tell you. Everyone gets tan lines šŸ˜›
2) If it's the weight of your bag you're worried about, dont worry! It's manageable. There are lockers in the classroom you can use, too šŸ™‚

Thanks a lot for the info! BTW, it's not the weight I'm worried about. It's just that I'm not sure how big my school bag should be.
Ah, I see. People survive with jansports and whatnot. So it should be fine šŸ™‚ But if you stay further away from the school and you need to travel long distances back home, I suggest you get one that has good support. Or you'll end up with sore shoulders on crowded public transport. Trust me, it's NOT nice.
I am from st nicks, entered in sec 1 and now waiting for o level results.

These 4 years I have never ever regretted coming here even though it was my 2nd choice, 1st dunman high. I am actually thankful that i didnt get into dhs! haha. The school culture in st nicks is just so vibrant and loving. The girls are very accepting and I found friends easily, there is no discrimination based on family background, wealth or results at all! Triple science girls have good friends in the normal chinese class, everyone I know just mixes and never judges each other. Some indian or eurasian girls who take chinese and came here also have no problem fitting in, in fact they are celebrated for their differences and they share with us their culture. I have never been happier going to school everyday despite living really far away and having to travel 2h by bus back home, it's so nice when you enter the classroom in the morning and your classmates smile at you and say good morning, when you pass your friends in the corridor and it's just so happy and smiles all around everyday! When you are feeling down, the girls would always be so concerned and caring, you will feel so loved šŸ™‚
As for workload, I personally find it manageable, as long as you do your part, pay attention in class and complete homework. Everything will be a breeze! The teachers are very willing to help, in fact they would pester us to meet up with them to clarify our doubts or for extra practice. If there's anything you don't understand during lesson, the teachers are so sweet and more than willing to stay back and help if you just ask! So I feel there is no need for tuition šŸ™‚ Also the girls here are very kind and helpful, not competitive at all, we always ask each other for help in school work and everyone helps one another. During the days nearing o level our phones was frantic with all the pictures of questions we would whatsapp each other asking for help, the questions would circulate until some smart girl solved it and the solution would go all around again! I could not have got through it without my classmates and friends, who are so unselfish and never just think of only wanting themselves to do well, and I am so grateful! If you ever need extra help, you will receive it here. The school also has lots of resources, and they are not only given to the top classes or what. I am in one of the weaker classes but I have never been slighted by the school or my school mates and have had my fair share of enrichment classes! In fact, the school teachers put in a lot of effort to help weaker students šŸ™‚
The principal is also fantastic, she is always, always trying to make school better for all the students, and is very approachable šŸ™‚
All in all, st nicks is a wonderful place to be, I always feel so safe, happy and loved at school ā¤

Wa...glad u had such wonderfull 4 Years in St Nicks.
Always heard scary stories from other people's friends abt the stress level...
You mentioned abt the 'Principal' being fantastic ... Is she the ex-P or current one?
Thanks.

was referring to the current principal, she's great šŸ˜„ stress level is inevitable i think! especially when big exams approach. but having these kind people around eases it a whole lot. haha yes it was a wonderful 4 years, everyone just suddenly realised how comfortable the environment is in st nicks when it was time to go.

welcome new mei mei men!! :rahrah: there will be ups and downs but i'm sure all of you will meet the best people you know there and leave st nicks happy, confident and well-groomed girls. all this sounds so preachy and like i got brainwashed like that but no haha, it's all true confirm plus guarantee!
Totally completely definitely 100% sure I agree with you šŸ˜„
I dunno whether it has been mentioned here, but these JJM raised money to get the school a swing and new study tables and benches just before they left :') Thanks a whole bunch, and good luck for your results! šŸ™‚
Hi. I'd like to ask:

Does SNGS offer normal Chinese? Or is it compulsory to do HCL? I understand that most SNGS are very effectively bilingual. Will one who is weak in Chinese feel out of place?

Can 'O' levels track girls apply to the new JC? Any affiliation points like CJC?

TIA

Yes there are 2 classes that offer Normal Chinese.
Weak in Chinese students won't feel out of place. In fact, the learning environment will help those not doing HMT to improve.
O Level track girls can apply to the new JC through Merits only, unlike the IP students who will hv direct entry.

If i am not wrong, SNGS have affiliation to the new JC. you can verify with the school
You can deduct two points if you put CJC as your first choice, I think. Only for CJC. It's in the student's diary.

Bishan ite is possible and makes sense for the new JC. After all bishan ite will be consolidated to AMK ite (big campus).

I don't understand why these high scorer 260 above didnot apply IP programme the moment they received their results, instead choosing O level track. Guess some of them do regret.
Hello,
There're a few reasons why these high-scorers didn't apply for IP. I do have a few friends like that. They said they like the family spirit here, and they believed that SN could provide a good and balanced school life and help them attain good results. Either that, or they don't like the stress of IP schools. It is quite demanding and I've heard \"horror stories\". Also, if the student does well enough in SN and thinks she can handle IP, she can choose to transfer out. No one I know regrets coming here; they look to SN as a...home.
But it all boils down to each individual's interests, really.
My dd had just finished taking her PSLE. I'm now trying to get more information on MEP as I'm thinking of choosing MEP for in Sec 1. I had read the MEP brochure but still have further clarifications? Is it true that once you have chosen MEP, you will not be able to drop it later on if you have problem in coping? Can someone whose dc is taking MEP care to confirm. I would also like to know how frequent is the MEP class per week? Is it easy to pass? How frequent are the test and exam? Does it take up a lot of time/stressful?

I think (think) you can drop it, if you can't cope. MEP lessons are conducted once a week, during curriculum time for lower sec, and after curriculum time for upper sec. They will have their exams together with common tests/eoy. I have to stress that MEP is really for those who express interest in music, as I have some friends who were forced into it and can't cope as they don't like it.
Good luck! šŸ™‚

Hi themutantgerm,
Thanks for your reply. Just to confirm, are you a student of CHIJ St Nic.?
Yes I am šŸ™‚ Sorry for the late reply. And phankao is right, my friend couldn't drop MEP. So yes, do consider it carefully.

What is the web portal to update the mobile number to receive such sms?

Sch will SMS parents only if the girls don't sign in or out before leaving sch.
U can get yr child to infd Form teacher to update yr h/p.

It's not a must to sign out of school anymore, though.
