My dd had just finished taking her PSLE. I'm now trying to get more information on MEP as I'm thinking of choosing MEP for in Sec 1. I had read the MEP brochure but still have further clarifications? Is it true that once you have chosen MEP, you will not be able to drop it later on if you have problem in coping? Can someone whose dc is taking MEP care to confirm. I would also like to know how frequent is the MEP class per week? Is it easy to pass? How frequent are the test and exam? Does it take up a lot of time/stressful?
I think (think) you can drop it, if you can't cope. MEP lessons are conducted once a week, during curriculum time for lower sec, and after curriculum time for upper sec. They will have their exams together with common tests/eoy. I have to stress that MEP is really for those who express interest in music, as I have some friends who were forced into it and can't cope as they don't like it.
Good luck!
Hi themutantgerm,
Thanks for your reply. Just to confirm, are you a student of CHIJ St Nic.?
Yes I am
Sorry for the late reply. And phankao is right, my friend couldn't drop MEP. So yes, do consider it carefully.

Hello,Bishan ite is possible and makes sense for the new JC. After all bishan ite will be consolidated to AMK ite (big campus).
I don't understand why these high scorer 260 above didnot apply IP programme the moment they received their results, instead choosing O level track. Guess some of them do regret.
There're a few reasons why these high-scorers didn't apply for IP. I do have a few friends like that. They said they like the family spirit here, and they believed that SN could provide a good and balanced school life and help them attain good results. Either that, or they don't like the stress of IP schools. It is quite demanding and I've heard \"horror stories\". Also, if the student does well enough in SN and thinks she can handle IP, she can choose to transfer out. No one I know regrets coming here; they look to SN as a...home.
But it all boils down to each individual's interests, really. -

Yes there are 2 classes that offer Normal Chinese.Crester:
Hi. I'd like to ask:
Does SNGS offer normal Chinese? Or is it compulsory to do HCL? I understand that most SNGS are very effectively bilingual. Will one who is weak in Chinese feel out of place?
Can 'O' levels track girls apply to the new JC? Any affiliation points like CJC?
TIA
Weak in Chinese students won't feel out of place. In fact, the learning environment will help those not doing HMT to improve.
O Level track girls can apply to the new JC through Merits only, unlike the IP students who will hv direct entry.
If i am not wrong, SNGS have affiliation to the new JC. you can verify with the school
You can deduct two points if you put CJC as your first choice, I think. Only for CJC. It's in the student's diary. -
Themutantgerm,
Care to share with us an insight of whatβs life in SNG n yr schoolβs experiences?
Thanks. -
Just like to know, do the Sec teachers really teach at St Nicks Sec and if most of their students go for tuition? As much as possible, I want to have no more tuition when my DD goes to secondary, I want her to study independently.
