RE: NJC and Dunman High
CassN:
Thank you CassN. It is good to hear from NJC students themselves. What about peers relationship? I understand that for some Top schools, students tends too be very competitive and so more \"selfish\" in a way. Seems like NJC has a more friendly environment. Do you know the number of intakes per year for NJC? All are IP students, right?Hello
I'm a student of NJC.
I'd say that we are not very academic oriented, the environment here is really nice and friendly, not a stressful and competitive ground. I liked that especially as personally, I'm not someone who wants to 'mug' all day long and achieve superb results at the end of the day. The curriculum also enforces on character development (; We are given many opportunities for leadership stuff.
In Sec 1 & 2, there isn't any 'major exams' like primary school's CA or SA. But the system works with many little small graded assignments (Eg. a project that constitutes 20%, a class quiz that constitutes 15%, a debate/role play that constitutes another 25%, etc.) I think that makes students less stress about school work, but at the same time we are still learning what we are supposed to
In Sec 3 & 4, there are still such projects and assignments that are graded, but there will also be 'major exams' that will take up a relatively huge portion of the grade.
In the IP programme, we are given many opportunities to develop our character and not just focus on academics always. We are also being exposed to many fun activities (especially during the Boarding term) that help bonding within and between classes/houses
The curriculum is also specially made (we don't usually use textbooks outside except for some subjects) to better prepare us for A levels, instead of the usual O levels style. And some things we are learning are the 'simpler' and more basic things that other students only get to know in JC1.
It is true that the school is better at Maths & Science. We are also exposed to doing research in Sec 2 & 3 (most people choose Science, some Maths) and we will work in groups with a teacher mentoring us. Some students get to cooperate with researchers from universities and polytechnics, and some will be chosen for exchange programme with various countries. Hope this helps! :celebrate: -

Hi
Can we still apply directly to NUS High now after the release of the PSLE result? I understand that NUS High take in students mostly through DSA, but are there still rooms to apply? DS got 263 for his result and we are thinking if he can try to apply to NUS High.
Thank you.
Year 1 (DSA Phase 2 – PSLE)
Application Process
The NUS High School DSA Phase 2 - PSLE application is open only to P6 students who have not been admitted to a school through the DSA-Sec Exercise. As our school is not in the list of schools participating in the Secondary One Posting Exercise, interested applicants who wish to apply using PSLE score must apply via our online portal. The registration for Phase 2 is open for a week from the date of release of PSLE results. The online portal is accessible 24 hours a day. Applicants will be assessed primarily based on their PSLE results. Applicants may be asked to submit a portfolio and/or attend an interview. Only applicants with S1 Option Form are eligible to apply.

NJC and Dunman High
Hi
Can anyone give us a clearer views on these 2 schools? How are they doing with their A level results for the past few years? In terms of curriculums, which school is more acadamic oriented and stronger in terms of innovation? I understand that Dunman High is very strong in their Chinese while NJC is stronger in Maths and Science. Can someone help to clarify if my understanding is correct?
:thankyou: -

Thank you very much jtoh! :thankyou:Tuppy:
Yes, jtoh. RI has been his dream school (as well as mine). He was expecting a better result but to get 263 is already a good one. Thank you for your view! We will want to give RI a shot too! Just wasn't sure if it is safer than just going for Hwa Chong as 1st choice.
263 is very good. Just go for RI. Good luck! -
