abachee:Without all JC/institutions increasing their full A level results, there is no way to determine the ranking, however, if you believe the results of HCI, RI and VJC produced by those 6 pointers and below, you must also assume or believe that NYJC's A level results should be equal if not better than VJC. The reason is that all students are the end product of our education system, the deviation between these 6 pointers and below cannot be too large or there will be a problem, its either the system or the school. If NYJC take in gems and produce trash, I dont think it popularity will improve year after year, words will travels and students are not stupid. Its good to have competition and we should give credit when it is due.
NYJC will never be a 3rd placing JC and never was.
They are now joint 3rd place as this year COP have change due to popularity of that JC.
Please take note that it is the school cohort A level results is the barometer that determines which JC is the best rank JC.
Yes, NYJC have done a good job marketing themselve to the public and able to draw few nett 6 & 7 pointers to the school. But if they were to be able to do that for the next few years comsecutively and go above VJC in terms of popularity COP.
Then we can acknowledge that they are 3rd rank JC in terms of COP which is also its popularity choice of the JCs among the PSLE students.

In terms of COP, Nanyang (Science) is on par with Victoria JC (Science), also 6 points. Just one point behind RI (Science), at 5. Impressive, because Nanyang is not an IP-JC

Heard from my friends that this year hot courses at poly most have their cop reduced, I wonder the same for JC?
Most people seem to be ok with the school rule of wearing only a certain colour of bra (including inspecting) and never questioned whether its relevant or appropriate at this age of time. I can accept and understand the requirement of uniformity for hair, skirt length even to the type of shoe or socks (colours included) because it affect the appearance of the student but undergarment? I found it dated and intrusive, I mean come on, unbuttoning and checking the bra inside, if this is not intrusive then I am not what is. I wonder which school in Singapore does that or has such rule. Undergarments are very personal items and its not the business of the school to interfere not even in a conservative Muslim society. To me, as long as the bra is totally covered by the blouse, its consider decent already. If the colour of the bra can be seen through the blouse then may be the problem is with the material of the blouse here. To that I also want to know, is there a requirement for certain colour of shorts/panties as the skirt have the same material as the blouse, I think its absurd. Strict rules is one thing and following the rules blindly is another.
I do not have the statistic on hand to ascertain whether a retainee gaining admission into Medicine but I think there is a possibility depending how you spin the story. Gov/media nowsday like such comeback kids kind of story…a person overcoming great adversaries to achieve great results… to prove the flexibility of our system and upwards mobility is still alive and kicking. This also prove the strong character of the applicant and interviewer will likes such candidate. Personally, I do hope more such candidates are given more opportunity, its this kind of people who has the smart to survive in a crisis.
genevaong:Actually how bad she failed her J1 huh? (mostly F9 or UG?) To make to be retained I guess would put her in the bottom 5 or 10% of her JC cohort?? I think the priority now should be to pass the J1 and promote to J2 and not anything else....council activities is a luxury...have you all analyse why she failed so badly?...no time to study bcos of council?...dont understand what the teacher is teaching?...does she needs tuition?...you retained and still thinking of changing subject combinations to study a new subject??...she not even thinking straight....if she is my DD, I will tell her straight to just concentrate on her study and forget about any cca....why still waste precious time appealing??...even she campaign...how is she going to ask for vote by telling people what she did last year in council and she back to serve again by retaining...has she thought about how people will see her? A retainee back to ask for vote again??....i am not mean but this how people will think and see her......Her previous plan was to not take on a CCA at all for the next 2 years as she is not interested in other CCAs, and she intends to build her portfolio for university entrance through volunteer work at Youth Corps during her holidays and then seek a job placement in the healthcare industry (e.g. polyclinic or GP clinics) during her post-A levels, as well as voluntary at other organisations. I agreed with her plan as it does seem feasible as she is keeping her school days free from any other external work, and I think with that, she can have a more balanced time of studying and relaxing now.
She recently had the thought of making an appeal to the principal regarding council as I believe it was because of her last session with the council and I think she misses them.
Her council teacher has also spoken to her regarding how she can build her portfolio without taking on a CCA, as her portfolio for 2018 is rather okay since she had council as a CCA. Her council teacher did advise her to take on volunteer work outside of school during holidays, and retainees are being given a internship opportunity during post-promos, which he recommended her to take on an internship at healthcare industry as she can include this into her portfolio too. In addition, he also mentioned that she can join Orientation 2020 as an OGL this year as long as she does well for promos, which will give her portfolio a boost as well.
I believe that she is having a hard time at the moment letting go of council as she has mentioned how council has been a big part of her jc journey so far and I just wanted to support her as much as possible.
First tier sec school for PSLE students become 3/4 tier college for O level students…the logic dont seem to match

Sometimes, they have to think it out and experience the ups and downs for themselves. For us, we advised our older girl the other way - to do A levels first, then poly. We knew she couldn't handle poly at 16, and hoped that the 3 years in MI would help her grow and mature a bit more. After that, she went to poly, and would probably have been ok. But she was also offered a university for a course she preferred. So you never know, if your daughter takes A levels, she might still do well enough to get a university place. At worst, take a longer route.
phtthp:I read that NYGH COP drop drastically this year is due to their NYPS not so ideal PSLE performance of the girls that cause the number of affiliated students going to NYGH to drop. Thus, the know fact is NYGH usual high COP is pushed up by the smaller number of vacancies left after their affiliate students, in actual fact, if they follow HCI with no affiliation, their COP will be probably same or lower than HCI, right? To be truly a top school, all affiliation must end and admission should be sorely by merits for IP.RGS : 259 (No HCL involved), since RGS isn't a SAP school.mommyNg:Confirm official COP (from MOE and school):
