Received MGS CO for O-Level STEM at 9.06am today

Quick question - if my DD accepts O-Level STEM but does well enough to get into IP-STEM, will she will allowed to "upgrade"?

MGS IP STEM received in email 30 June, 10.42pm

Requirements very different from 2020 when my older daughter was shortlisted, maybe because during pandemic.

      This year’s as follows
Selection Process: This comprises 3 segments so estimated waiting time is about 2.5—3 hours.
      ● STEM problem-solving task OR English Language Group Interaction task
      ● Individual Interview
      ● Viewpoint essay

      Stress man…

Can I check if your daughters received any notification for MGS's EL domain please? It seems like some have received for STEM and leadership. Thanks!
My dd's school received MGS EL and STEM on the same day last week.

Websterfong, may I know when did your DD get notified by her sch about her MGS STEM e-interview and test?
She was given the letter on Tuesday 30 June 2020.

      Hi
Anyone received news from MGS Eng or NYGH Math?

      Thanks

Very strange. My daughter came back from school with a letter addressed to her, informing her that she has been shortlisted for MGS English. The thing is, she applied for MGS STEM! We didn't get any email at all. I'm wondering if this was a mistake? And why did the invitation come through the school?

      Confused....

Hmm....did you call MGS?[/quote]Ah we got a reply. Her school typed so many letters, they made a typo. Her invitation is for MGS IP-STEM.
2 components - 30 mins interview, 30 mins essay writing

I'm still confused why the notification came through her primary school... oh well!

Just realised it's 5 days to the close of DSA application! We did a family conference today, hope to get some expert opinion on this!

      Daughter's portfolio
      1) Exco prefect
      2) Top 3 Math/Science last year but no prior Olympiad competitions at all. Only chance this year gone.
      3) Multiple recipient of ECHA and school equivalent
      4) Piano ABRSM Grade 5
      5) Represented school in team sports P2-P4, continued externally till now
She's looking at MGS, RGS, SNGS, NJC....

She seems to think she has a passion for music and wants to apply for DSA MEP but from what I'm reading, a Grade 5 Piano probably won't even get her an interview correct? I'm assuming that all that matters in this Part 1 is to get shortlisted so if there are like 100 applicants for MEP for that school, perhaps they may just filter by Grade and cut off at Grade 8??!

She thinks maybe DSA Math but without any competition results, also no hope?
DSA Leadership also seems like far fetched since she's not even Head/Vice Head?

We are not stressed I must say, with the attitude that if don't get then see PSLE lor.... But no harm applying right?

      Any opinions appreciated! Thank you.

Realistically, t-score would be her best chance.

Although she can try using math / science given that’s she top 3 (in her level?). A number of students would likely to be in the same situation with no MO this year. Furthermore, not all schools participate in MO. Several popular and ‘branded’ schools also don’t take part in MO and I don’t see that curtailing their students’ chances.

Music / MEP would probably be wasting your time.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts! Best not to waste any of the 3 choices on MEP then! She can still join MEP after she gets into the school.

Math/Science - I guess no harm although I hear it's probably one of the most competitive academic DSA. Yes she was Top 3 in her level
