      WCW:
We had went down to AGPS. Quite like the place, esp the ASC is within the school. just pray that we are able to get a place next year esp the \"competition\" is getting tougher n it is their 1st PSLE this year (correct?)

i think next year registration should still have quite good chance to get a place.
Thereafter, it's quite hard to say since SK got so many upcoming BTOs and new private property coming up. With the high density living, many will be scrambling to get a place in a nearby school.

In no time, I bet AGPS will be one of the more popular 'alternative' schools given its conducive environment and the good Principal. i hope the Principal will renew her term with AGPS. ๐Ÿ˜„

Any existing parents who have kids in agps can advise is the discipline strict or being enforce properly in this school ? and is this school on similar league as north vista i.e play and play and not academic driven at all ?

To what I know the children in AGPS seemed quite disciplined and I am sure the school does enforce rules as there are regular spot checks on personal grooming etc.

In terms of being academic driven, alot will depend on the teachers' style of teaching and the parents' reinforcement at home.
As parents, we have to work with the teacher to ensure the child hands in the daily homework and that there's regular communication if there any doubts.

BTW I have a relative studying in North Vista. It seemed like a very tech advanced school and have interesting teaching methods. I can't tell if they are less academic driven but they seem to have alot of enrichment activities.

WCW, yes born in 2005. When he was born we thought he would b gg to the other nearby very very popular school, but over the years it seems impossible to get in. Lucky draw style, even within 1 km. Worse is, if fail 2C also have to ballot 2C Sup at AGPS. Anyway, went to AGPS open house in May and had a very good feeling about this school. Better than some others further away. From the numbers one can tell this school also getting more popular.

I went through the same dilemna as you. Finally a visit to AGPS gave me good vibes and decided to go with my guts for once. No regrets so far.
Not too stressful environment and my child is enjoying herself.

oh, no homework on fridays... so that children will have more time with family... not sure is it good or bad :?

Why would spending more time with family be bad?? ๐Ÿ™‚
I fully advocate this for greater work life balance..

May I ask parents here if the school is academically driven ? Particularly the P5/6 students ?

This response might be a tad too late. Anyway, my child is only in Pri 1 but I do NOT get the feeling that the school is very academically driven. Instead it looks at an all-rounded development of the children in terms of expressing themselves (through the show and tell, speech and drama) and learning through exploration (PAL program). Also, the sch has a policy of no homework on Fridays so that says alot.

I would expect schools who are results driven to be giving tonnes of homework, tuition or enrichment programmes.

    • RE: Club SAHM

      Hi SAHMs

I'm aspiring to be a SAHM but the standards in Singapore is too high to rely on single income. ๐Ÿ˜ข

BTW, I'm searching for the right place to post this. MODs, please feel free to move the thread to appropriate place.

Our coy is looking for SAHMs to work as home-based telemarketers. We are a legitimate Singapore registered call centre who has been established since 10 years ago. As part of worklife balance initiative, we have recently rolled out a new work scheme targetting at SAHMs who want to work part-time from home. Payment is results based estimated between $5 to 9 per hour. Not coldcalling or MLM. No fees required. Just a good working PC and Internet Connection. Training will be provided for 3 days with allowance.

Please call 6-3-3-7-7-4-8-8 to look for Vivien or PM me your contact number for more details.

      Cheers.

Hiya, my gal will be in AGPS next year and I must say the school has given me a good impression so far.

      HappyAvon:
Oh my goodness...I was clearing d hamster cage just a while ago n to my surprise I saw 4 babies inside d wooden house which was all along in d cage..I scream for hubby as I could not believe my eyes....we are sure when we bought these 2 hamsters more than 6 mths ago, we had told d pet shop we only wanted males since we do not want them to mate...?

Hahaha wat a pleasant surprise indeed! :celebrate:

When i was a kid, I had 43 hamsters (yes, you read it right). And these 43 started becos' of 1 impregnated hamster (and we were unaware) who later on gave birth to 7 hamsters and then multiply ... multiply ... multiply.

In the end, we had to give away in pairs to relatives and friends. Was so sad. Haha, those were the days.

    • RE: Rated S for Scary - About fengshui and supernatural stuff

I love this thread as I have always been a fan of spooky campfire stories.

The following is a real story told to me by a friend. This happened more than 10 years ago.

My friend had a lady colleague (we name her as X) whoโ€™s hubby was quite well off and loved her alot. This colleague had been happily married for many years and her hubby often showered her with gifts.

One day, another of my friendโ€™s colleague was going to work and saw X at the ground floor lift lobby at their office bldg from a distance. She called out to X who was entering the lift to wait for her. X turned and looked at her and said "Life is really hard". X had looked slightly dishevelled, unlike her usual immaculate self. With that X went into the lift and did not wait for the colleague.

When the colleague took the next lift and reached the office, she was puzzled abt why X did not wait for her. Just then she saw her colleagues gathering around and were discussing about something. She later found out from them that X had jumped to her death that morning, upon realising that her hubby had kept a mistress for many years.
