Hi 25hourmaid n carebear, really appreciate yr kind advise....will read thru the website to learn more....till now we did not move anything in the cage yet....except refilling water bottle n food....the male has not bee separated yet since we need another cage....I think will do so by this week n hopefully the mother is not pregnant again....or I will really faint :!:

My advice is still the same, move the father out before you get more unexpected babies!

Yes, they have a tendency to crawl out of the house and the funny thing is that the mum will pick them up and put them back in the house. Sometimes it is very funny watching them. She put back one, another crawls out, put back that one, the first one crawls out again, never ending job .... typical of a mummy's job, hor? 😉

You are already finding them cute now, wait till you see fur on them, even more cute!

Hi happyavon, separate the father asap!

Ya, 25hourmaid, it is so cute to see the mother gathering all the pups for breast feeding. Mine will look for all 9 of them before she started suckling them. Sometimes she will climb up to the second level of the cage to get away from her kids, and take a good break.
Later when they were bigger, she would go around and start to bite some of them. Dunno for what reason. I told my kids probably those she bit was those who were naughty and never study hamster stuff! I ended up with many cages cos they ended fighting with one another.

Oh my goodness...I was clearing d hamster cage just a while ago n to my surprise I saw 4 babies inside d wooden house which was all along in d cage..I scream for hubby as I could not believe my eyes....we are sure when we bought these 2 hamsters more than 6 mths ago, we had told d pet shop we only wanted males since we do not want them to mate...?

Hahaha wat a pleasant surprise indeed! :celebrate:

When i was a kid, I had 43 hamsters (yes, you read it right). And these 43 started becos' of 1 impregnated hamster (and we were unaware) who later on gave birth to 7 hamsters and then multiply ... multiply ... multiply.

In the end, we had to give away in pairs to relatives and friends. Was so sad. Haha, those were the days.

Hi wobblejelly, since we did not intend to breed the hamsters, it really came as a shock to me :!: ....When I called the pet shop whom we bought the 2 hamsters and inform them of the 'incident', they did express to keep the babies if we do not want them....As for the adult, I need to let go one of them since they are of different sex.....Still thinking whether to let go cos really can't bear to give away. 😢 ...Right now, both the daddy and mummy are still in the same cage....will separate the daddy by this week...really cannot imagine another round of pregnancy..... 🙏

Hi 25hourmaid, yah…really very cute…everyday I keep watching them secretly…the cutest part is when I saw the mum pushing the babies one by one and placed them below her…She then sits on them and nurse them quietly…when the mum tries to walk away, u can see the baby still clinging on the mummy…The mummy seems very responsible leh…really so touching…I think if I really need to give away one of the adult, I will choose the daddy…seeing the mum so loving, really can’t bear to give her away…

dady hammie must be separated quickly or else a second batch babies will come, also if you need more cages and stuff to house the male
you are welcome too to have mine.
