    • RE: My 6yr old son cries often and daddy is annoyed with that

      mom@senja:
My husband is getting increasingly frustrated with his 6yr old for crying so easily. Hubby thinks I always jump to his rescue and worsening the situation but if I don't, my son will cry longer and then my hubby will scold him and the cycle doesn't stop. Son cries, hubby scolds. Hubby scolds, son cries. Whats this thing between father and son ?

      Hi,

I think you need to see why your son cries so easily.

If it is due to over-sensitive, then I think it is fine. You can console him and tell your husband that it is your DS's character.

But if he cries because he wants to get/do something, then you should let him calm down and then talk to him.
      I agree with what mrswongtuition.
I think there is a thread about kids throwing tantrums and how the parents here use 'naughty corner' or 'thinking corner' to let them calm down before talking to them.
Some of the kids cried for 45 minutes or more or even vomit.

If every time he cries (wanted to get something), and you jump to his defence or give in to him, he will think you APPROVED his crying behaviour. So, he will think it is alright for him to cry/whine whenever he wants something.

So, whenever he cries cause he wants something, you two should ignore him. ask your hubby no need to scold him too.
You need to DISAPPROVE what he is doing. He will learn and cry less.

      Hope it helps.

    • RE: What is Rectal Prolapse?

      kwokwc:
      Hi worryfather,

glad to know that your dd is much better now. I know that constipation is not good for all pp regardless of age. For my 1st dd, when she was young, she also had hard stool and not everyday she passed motion too. That time she was still on breastmilk. To say the truth, I was quite worried, bcos rightfully breastfeed babies should not have hard stool or constipation. But indeed she had that problem.

However, happen at that time, I joined a MLM - Elken, and I bought their spirulina and I let her eat. I must say, lucky at that time, I get to know spirulina and let her eat it, after taking her stool was softer and she pass motion daily. If for the day, I don't let her eat it, the next day, her stool will be hard again. At her age, I just gave her 1 small pill each day.

I know that goat milk is next best to breastmilk, however, goat milk is very heaty too. It will tend to cause constipation too. You might want to consider looking into spirulina or any other health supplement for your dd to eat.

For my 2nd dd (who just turn 2), I let her eat goat milk candies at time. Everytime after eating 3 candies, she will have harder stool. Now she is still breastfeeding and she eats a lot of fruits and vege. As her case is too as bad as my older girl, I didn't let her take spirulina. So if you are really considering taking goat milk, make sure you increase her fiber intake.

Like what you say, must watch our bowel movement. I do hear that some doc tell pp that it is alright to pass motion once in 3-4 days, but really it is not healthy as there will be a lot of toxins in our body. Normally should be at least 1 bowel movement daily.
      Hi kwokwc,

Yeah.. sometimes kids have strong reaction to certain food, like your 2nd dd and my dd. a little bit of lactose, her stool will become hard immediately.

Thanks for your suggestion. For the time being, we will try not to give our kids any supplements or pill.

    • RE: What is Rectal Prolapse?

      Hi schweppes, duriz, MummyThreeStreams,

Thanks all for your well wishes and suggestions!

We are thinking to switch to goat milk. Heard it is the next best after breast milk.

Else, like what MummyThreeStreams suggested, slowly reduce to maybe just one glass/milk bottle of formula milk per day.

      MummyThreeStreams,
My DD is 2+. She has her three main meals daily. She still like to drink milk, so we give her milk before breakfast, before nap time and at night before she sleeps.

We try to make sure she has enough nutrition for her meals. On top of that, sometimes we will give her fruits, prune/prune juice, cheese…
And need to make sure she drinks plenty of water.

Think we cannot expect formula milk to work magic or provide all nutrition, still need to monitor to make sure our kids get balanced diet.

      Thanks all!

      Thank you for sharing, worryfather.

What a terrible ordeal for your DD, wife and yourself.

I hope your DD never have to go through it again 🙏
Thanks duriz. She is much better now.

It was quite a terrible experience. luckily it was not painful for my DD.
Now she can only take one time of formula milk with lactose, mostly on soy milk. But also read that soy milk is not so good also.

    • What is Rectal Prolapse?

      Hi,

Just would like to share a medical condition that my daughter had couple of months ago.

      It is called rectal prolapse.

According to wikipedia, Rectal Prolapse is a medical condition wherein the walls of the rectum protrude through the anus and hence become visible outside the body.

When it happens to our daughter and we had no idea what’s that, we were freaked out!

My daughter had her 1st prolapse a few months ago. That time, it came out and went in very fast when my wife saw it. We didn’t really worry about it.

A few weeks later, it happened again. My daughter refused to stand up from potty. We felt something amiss. We lifted her up from potty, and saw the prolapse. She thought the ‘something’ was her stool. We were traumatized, as we do not know what was it and why it is happening. I was carrying my daughter and wanted to put her down on the bed to clean it. My daughter kept crying and refused to lie down. After half an hour of carrying and coaxing, the prolapse went it. Immediately we went to consult our family doctor. He thought it was piles. Nevertheless, the doctor wrote a referral letter for us to consult specialist.

We went to consult Paed Surgeon, that’s when we first heard about rectal prolapse. He said it was due to constipation. But our daughter pass motion everyday. He pointed out that she has hard stool. Hard stool causes her rectum to strain when there is bowel movement. After straining too much, rectum become loose and prolapse happens. He prescribed Fybogel (fibre) and Lactus (laxation).
We suspected it was her formula milk that cause hard stool. We switched to fresh milk.

The following week, it became worse!

It happened again! The prolapse lasted for one hour before went in, as we didn’t know how to reduce it. And subsequently, it happens daily!! We went to consult another Paed surgeon. He also didn’t give us any concrete solution, except reassured us that it is nothing major and it is curable by solving the hard stool.

      We still worry…

We searched high and low for information and worry why our daughter has such uncommon problem. There were not many people who have this problem.
We read a few medical articles about it. We suspect it was due to cow’s milk. Formula milk contains cow’s milk too. Although formula milk has a lot of nutrients, but it doesn’t contain fibre. It might cause constipation.

We decided to stop fresh milk and reduce my daughter formula milk intake as well. Give her a lot of food rich in fibre. It helps. At least it didn’t happen for the past few weeks.

As it is an uncommon medical condition, there are limited information about it. Do take care of your kid’s constipation problem and give them food rich in fibre. Prepare a healthy diet for your kids.

All schools should change socks and shoes black!

cause no need to wash shoes?

Hi worryfather, thanks for the warm welcome!
Yes, i guess i did mention EDD is early Jan 2011.
Hubs says as long Jan next year ok liao.. he does
not want bb to be the youngest in class or some sort..
Cheh.. 😛 Naah.. not nanny. I'm thinking of getting a maid.
Cos i wanna go back to work! 😉 Infant and student cares
      are like sooooo expensive!

      Hi buds,
why you like Innova so much? (sorry, if you have answered before)

What you plan to work as?

Luckily you are not fighting Nanny with me. 🙏
We are looking for one for quite long. Do you know any to recommend? 😄
Are you comfortable leaving your kids to maid? We are not very comfortable that's why we prefer nanny.

      Good luck to you..
