We'd like to know whether triple science option is very popular and my DS could miss the opportunity even he meets the requirement.
And how many triple science class are there in Y3 ?

The triple science option is less popular than it used to be simply because it isn't as important as it used to be. The IB and A-levels are now designed to have Chemistry as a core science and one other at most. Even admission to Medicine courses now permits Chemistry + one other science.

Esteema is right to say that if your DS has the interests, why not try. However, remember that one extra science means one less of something else—whether it is more time, another useful subject, etc. When we designed the course, we took those trends into account—for example, unless you're going to be a radiologist (or have some other technical component like that), you won't need physics to be a doctor. It may be true that doing fewer subjects cuts down your options, but that's generally only true these days for engineering.

In every batch, there is a minimum of 6 triple-science classes, I think. I also think there should be fewer. 😄

Thank you autolycus. Yes, agree there’s opportunity costs & to get our child to weigh the considerations you’ve tossed forward.
Hi Esteema and autolycus,
Thanks for your valuable reply!

Dear all,

Now it’s time to select the subjects options for Y3, my DS is keen to have triple science and he just meets the requirement for triple science option (At least 225 overall for math, life science and physical science for triple science option, my DS got 227 ). but we were informed that the vacancies for each combination is limited.
We’d like to know whether triple science option is very popular and my DS could miss the opportunity even he meets the requirement.
And how many triple science class are there in Y3 ?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Estéema,
Thanks for your sharing.

Do you know whether ACSI Co-op will be open in next week? We still need to buy something from there.

Thanks!

I went to general office of HCI this afternoon and was told that they cannot accept my appeal because my DS’s score is 1 point lower than their COP (258) :scared:

Yes, it had been announced publicly in the press officially that MOE had made their stand clearly that for Appeal, students must meet the school's official Cut-off-point, first.

Once this piece of news had been announced officially, all Principals of Secondary schools are aware, need to follow MOE's order.

Here is NCM message regarding appeal, released through press that student must meet the COP first, to ensure transparency.

Your child had already done his best. Don't be sad. 2018 is a brand, new start to an exciting, new journey. Look forward!

If your son is a non-DSA student, before end of 2019 Secondary 2, within next two years, see if there is any chance to seek transfer over to HCI. Meanwhile, encourage him to do well, in his newly posted Secondary school. All the very best ! Keep it up !

Thanks! :thankyou:
