    • RE: Which 6 year direct program will admit T score of 258?

      turquoise:
      Hi yellow-dk,

At the briefing for GEP students, the AD of GEP branch said it's best that GEP students opt for secondary schools with gifted programmes. These include ACSI, RI, HCI, NUSH & Dunman High for boys. So definitely, include these schools in your choice.

      Good luck!
      Hi Turquoise
Yes, may include Dunman but not RI cos COP is 262. As for NUSH, last yr's min T-scole was 260, according to their website šŸ˜ž
Really need some luck this time round, thanks for your advice šŸ™‚

      noob:

[Will my 2nd choice school chances given away to others that place it as 1st choice?

No, according to the PSLE Booklets and MOE website. All students are ranked according to their PSLE scores. Your choice of school will be decided before the child whose rank comes after you. So if you don't get your 1st choice, the computer will go down your list to your 2nd choice, 3rd choice etc, and confirm your school, before moving on to the child ranked after you. Hope this is clear.

      Turquoise

My child has 258+2 and my choices are as below
      1) HCI
      2) RVHS
      3) ACS I

For GEP kids, do you think I should also include other SBGE schools such as Dunman High since child is from GEP and these programme will benefit him more if he gets in?

      Kindly advise , thank U šŸ™‚

    • RE: Choose Secondary school for 2010

I am still very confused šŸ˜ž

      How does it really work?

Example (I have omitted decimal etc just for simplicity...)
      290
      ...
      260
      ...
      150

The computer will go down the list and process starting from the first child and post him/her to the 1st choice school.
Next it goes down the list by merit of T-score. Assuming the 1st choice has reached the school's no. of vacanies for 1st choice sch, it will go to 2nd choice, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th until a vacany is found. Then it goes to the next child in line... and so on ...

If this is correct, the child with higher T-score will always have an opportunity to get into the school of his/her choice (as long as there is a vacany and he/she meets the COP) regardless of whether it is 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice? There is no way anthr child with lower T-score will be admitted to a school just because he/she puts it in 1st choice.

That means that we dont have to worry about whether we put the school in 2nd choice or 3rd or 4th?

Someone please HELP !!! This will help a lot of us decide on the choices.
      Many thanks

      My reply in blue
      yellow-dk:

      Advice needed pls, 😢

Child has T-scole 258+2 -Which school should he go for ?

      1) Dunman High -IP
      2) Hwa chong Inst -IP
      3) ACSI - IB (worry is that the school may not post child to IB as vacanies may be limited...)
      4) RVHS COP -IP
      5) NJC COP 260 - IP
      6) SJI COP - O level

      i) do u think we should choose IP over O level route?
      for me - yes
ii) some schools offer school base gifted education programme, is it really important to choose such programme if child is from GEP ?
      Of course
iii) does anyone know the no. of vacancies in each school ?
Call the schools to find out
iv) do we need to opt for all 6 choices?
I am not. I have only indicated 1 choice. šŸ˜„

      Thank you in advance :?:

Thanks Fairy. To play safe, I will probably include 3 choices : HCI, RVHS (non-SBEG), ACSI. How would u rank these 3 ?

      Thank you šŸ™‚

    • RE: How to prepare child for next week's Selection Test GEP ?

      puppylove:
Hi I am first time parent with child selected for selection test. Any experienced parent who has trained their child? Just want to give my child the best i can. Don't want to sit by and not do anything. Read some of your postings already... friends say Olympiad type maths good for practice. What else ? šŸ™‚

I don't think parents should prepare the kids for GEP. GEP programme is very tough and if the child is prepared just to get into GEP, they may eventually suffer and not be able to cope with the syllabus.

    • RE: 2009 DSA(Direct School Admission)

I was told by a friend that a child was accepted by one of the school with IP, even though PSLE score did not meet the entry requirement. Child did well in EL, Math, Science but score pulled down by CL. Does anyone know of such cases?

Reject letters from HCI n RI sent via post. A few people i know (me included) received also … just "cheong" for psle lah, dun be sad cos DSA has different selection criteria, our kids may just go in to these good schools via the PSLE posting route, just encourage them to work hard

    • RE: DSA - RI / HCI confirmed

      csc:
Thanks, Fluffy, for the sharing. These are my sentiments exactly.

I remember quite a number of my son's classmates did not get their choice school via DSA. In the end, they still get there via their PSLE results. In fact, a few were rejected by NJC, ACS(I), NUSH, RV but their final PSLE results landed them in RGS, RI and HCI instead.

Take the DSA exercise as an exposure or learning experience for the child. I hope the child's esteem is not just based on academic achievement alone. That will be real sad, indeed.

      Celebrate effort instead. :celebrate:

That's what we did. Immediately after the PSLE oral, my hubby and I dated our daughter for a sushi meal and during the meal, nothing about the oral topics was discussed.
I agree totally that DSA is not everything. My child wasn't successful in DSA - he was dealt with a hard blow. But it is important that we must believe in our child and when we do so, our child can feel it. That will boost their morale and they will do well :). Am confident of that... maintain GEP status or not? to me it isnt impt, what i want is my child to grow up well and be happy - as long as he has done his best
